I have an 04 3500 and plan on adding a second fuel filter, (2 micron) since dodge over looked this. Every one that I talk to tell me that the stock filter doesn't do the job it should at 10 micron. Can any one suggest a good add on filter? and where to get it.

GDP (Glacier Diesel Performance) sells a good kit. I have it on my truck and it works well. I'm running the Fleetguard filter right now but I'm going to run a Cat filter (1R-0750) in the future. The Cat is a slightly better rated filter.

Thanks, Do you have the second filter set up just after the stock one that is mounted to the engine or did you eliminate the stock one.

I have a FASS, which has filters rated at 99. 5% @ 3u and 95% @ 1u... using the HF6604.

As a temp fix, you can run a Baldwin in the stock replacement that is rated at 5u... they are, as far as I know, the best filter you can put in the stock location.

Remember to place a guage between the last filter and the CP3 to ensure you aren't creating a restriction and potentially starving the pump...

GDP here. I havn't been in the cold with my set up yet even though the weather says it will be a while I know its coming. It has been trouble free for 20k.

I got the GDP F/W Sep and 2 micron kit on mine with the filter housing eleiminator. I could have kept the stock filter housing, but it had a lot of crud in it. I feel much better about not having to worry about filling any dang place I end up at. Worth every penny after spending over 8K to replace the fuel system.

I have the GDP kit installed after the stock filter, I installed it January, so ran it for a few months in the cold with no problems all. I even drill and taped the filter housing and put my fuel pressure guage right in the center. So it is reading the pressure actually going to my CP3 pump. I've had no problems at all, and its mounted in a nice place to change.

I don,t have a second filter added but I do have the fass fuel system installed(150 gph)with 3 micron filter and it has been flawless since installed 30,000 plus miles ago. coobie:)

Add me to the GDP side... I have their 2 micro filter hanging under my air horn. Kit was complete and easy to install (just remove the driver's side front wheel for easy access) and I am much more confident that I am protecting the injectors. I will have to look into the Cat filter as a superior filter element... .

I run a Stanadyne FM-100 with 2-micron filters. I like the Stanadyne stuff - they provide nice charts and tons of options for the head. I run a clear water collection bowl and an electronic WIF. Other options include heater, lift pump, and they're supposed to be coming out with an electronic filter change indicator.

Anyone taken a 2-micron setup through a winter yet? I'd think fuel pressure may be a problem once cold weather really shows up.

I know some of the old posts I read about the FASS indicated that it was a good idea to switch to a 10 micron in the winter to prevent filter waxing... a lot of truck drivers do this also.

I had issues with fuel waxing last winter when temps got to around 0*F one time... which I attributed to bad fuel. I have ran over 450 miles with temps running between -25*F and -5*F before (on ULSD) without a single issue... the reason I figured that oddity was a bad batch of fuel.

Other than that single bad experience (which I feel would have been worse without the umph of the FASS), I have had zero problems in three winters' worth of driving.

The Racor stuff is pretty awesome they do a lot with the aircraft industry . They have units with heaters built into them.

In an attempt to locate a 2 micron filter for my trucks I emailed 3 of the filter manufactures listed above..... I had to call 2 of them as they didn't answer, but the jest of the call and email turned up that in fact they DO NOT or have they ever sold a 2 micron filter, even though their distributors tell you that what your buying is in fact a 2 micron filter... .

I suggest that you either contact your distributor or contact customer service of the filter your trying to buy to verify that in fact it is a 2 micron filter... see this in writing... .

Since my emails all come from an office computer with my company signature on the page, the one company that did respond did so not from the sales department but the engineering department.....

Since I'm not an engineer I had to send the note to my son, a PE to have him put it in terms I understood... . and what I learned was that it was their belief (filter manufacturer) that no company could hold 2 microns for more than a few hours with the pressures we are seeing in our trucks... . that at best 10 was what they felt they could do, month in and month out... .

I have left off the name of that manufacturer because the guy was speaking of the industry as a whole and it was his personal belief that if his company couldn't do, no one really could... ...

Since I believe that this post will flame some of you... please understand that is not my intent... . its a matter of you throwing money at a problem that maybe no one can really deal with... . and maybe after a couple of days of running the filter you've installed is really no better than the 10 micron that comes in the truck...

If you find a manufacturer that has posted on his web sight, that in fact his product for our trucks... . at the pressure our fuel systems sees, will function please post it here... . I'd like to own several of them...

The FASS "3u" filter is actually a hydraulic filter... the HF6604.

The HF6604 filter media break through is 80 psi... the can's burst strength is 600 psi...

The HF6604 is rated (beta ratio) at 3 micron @ 99. 5% and 1 micron @ 95%...

All this information was confirmed directly from Fleetguard (or Cummins Filtration). I confirmed this three times as I would get told by another manufacturer that their "equivalent" filter wasn't rated at 3 micron.

Some of us do our homework... I have a complete thread about FASS filters somewhere... :D And I agree, the only way to know for sure is to ask the manufacturer directly!

Oh, and the Baldwin filter is rated at 5u @ 98. 6% efficiency... the one that fits the 3rd gen filter housing.

I put a Cat mounting plate & cat 2m filter before the factory one. Have the updated factory in tank pump & that is all. Works fine & we do get some cold days up here
