The difference is minimal. But it is noticeable.

I just finished a 5000 mile cross country trip towing my toy hauler, first time with new 285/75/17's.



On flat ground and no head wind no problem, but with any hill mountain or headwind I either had to run 60-65 in 5th or 75+ in 6th, to keep the rpms high enough to make enough boost to cool the engine the difference is very noticeable an automatic might not be as bad.



Average MPG dropped 1 MPG comparing to the same trip 3 previous years using stock 265's

I will get another set of 265's before I make this trip again.

These 275 inj's, smarty on #5 and the stock turbo have no problem towing with 285 tires. Pulls great (at any speed).

285's, and my mods make towing our 5er up steep Oregon grades and winding roads a snap - last RV trip out to Oregon coast and back - 1200 mile run - delivered the best ever towing MPG of slightly over 17 MPG - with power to spare!



Simply drop into 5th gear in the hills, and cruise at about 5 MPH over the state 55 MPH speed limit - uphill. The 285's place the Cummins RPM right in the middle of it's "sweet spot" at that speed in 5th gear!

looking to put on some winter tires on my 07. 5. I got 4 - 10" x 17 rims what size tires can I put on them? I am keeping my 265's on the stock rims for summer and pulling my camper. I don't drive very much, I only had 68,000 miles on my 03 when I gave her up for the 07. 5.

Mpg's will be better because it will be running lower rpm. The difference between 265 and 285 is minimal.

I did the exact same change, 265 to 285 and have noticed not even a 1mpg drop

i dropped in milage. i went from the michline ltx in 265 to toyo mt in 285 and i could really feel the difference with the 3. 54 gears. i have an auto. i dont think its the size that i felt but the weight. the toyos are heavier. i just dont like the way the auto felt with them. i was trying to get used to driving an auto anyways so i may have been nit picking.

I have them on my truck with monroe reflex shocks it has such a nice ride ...

Just put Toyo 31575R16's on my 01 2500 4X4 with 2" leveling kit - I'm taking the tires back and swapping them for 285's due to rubbing on support arms and very sluggish performance. Had them sipped which made the already touchy steering even more touchy. It's amazing how larger tire sizes impact ride and performance, bigger is sure not always better. Thanks.

I had m55s, presently silent armor pro in 285s, there quiet. Ride seems good so far I am impressed with off road traction. No noticable wear but only have 2000 miles on them.

I did the same only I had 35x12. 5x17 Toyo Mts. Sold them and went back down to BFG At's 285x70x17's... ..... Picked up 3mpg with the change...

WOW, I have NEVER heard this before about the Michelins. I have just around 70,000 miles on mine with about 5,000 miles of tread left. I will be looking VERY HARD at Michelins for my next set of tires. Everything has been great with mine so far.
