I would agree with the low range advise. I would also lower your tire pressure to get a better contact patch, put it in 1st gear/4LO and let it idle away with his 5oo bucks in tow. Would be funnier beating him at idle than dragging him at WOT down the street. Just my $. 02

4lo and 1st are so freaking low (and slow), if it was a wide parking lot you could actually get out and watch the truck idle along puling his :) *

*note, don't if you have lots of balls to let your truck roll at idle and get out should you do this!

JBonpua,

If he thinks he has more torque. Do you have a dyno sheet? His you can look up online naturally.

Infact, you should invite him along to a dyno event :)

Heck, just send me a link to the tunda's site's 400foot#'s and the Dodge site showing 610 :)

Every month, you have to project the film of this on the front of his house with a few buds in the bed of your truck eating popcorn. There's a reason for the first three letters in his truck's name!

I didn't think of that! But better yet, Let your truck pull his at idle, them walk over to his window and ask if he wants to quite yet?:-laf

I also second what icaad1249 said, throw some weight in your truck too if you really want to make this a no brainer. Hitch height will help alot too, whoever is taller will have some more advantage, and that will be multiplied by a shorter strap/chain(preferably strap) Use a 18" strap and you'll probably pick his truck up to were the tires barely touch... :D

i have done this to ford power jokes the trick is put the parking brake to the floor low range 2nd gear use the foot brake also no chip and whatever you do dont spin. now go practice taking off in low range with the parking brake on just dont waste it.

Just out of curiousity, why leave your PB on while pulling? Are you trying to keep the rear wheels from spinning only one tire? If he has a good limited slip, just going in a straight line he should pull with both just fine... And that would add wear to his rear brakes...

I say do it STOCK

Yea, thats right, no Smarty, no extra weight, no special hitch. Think about it. Your motor alone weighs 1000 LBS. You are putting out about 300 HP and almost 600 ft lbs TQ at just over idle. I haven't searched, but I am willing to bet, that as in most any gasser motor, peak HP/TQ comes in nearly at redline.

You wouldn't want to go nose to nose with a boxer who is on 'roids, so don't kick the snot out of this TOY all juiced up. That way, when you smoke him, hey can't cry foul!

I may be wrong, but I honestly cannot see anything to be worried about.

If you do this and do not post a video, don't even bother ever posting on this site ever again! Withdraw your membership at once!:-laf

with the pb on it is almost impossible to get pulled back. trust me put it to the floor and do not spin or he can pull you.

Sorry guys/gals for the late repost regarding this showdown. Thanks everyone for the overwhelming responses and suggestions.

A good buddy of mine (that unfortunately knows this punk since we live within a few blocks from each other) owns a stock 04 D-max 2500. I took off work today to do several practice tugs with his D-max and prepped my truck for Sunday afternoon showdown with Mr. Toyota. I wanted to get my footwork rehearsed so I will not stall (since I owned the truck from brand new I never stalled it on take off). It took a while to get use to the heel and toe method but I’m a pro at it now. I did not want to go all out with his D-max and I did not want to burn my clutch or break his Ally.

Now the good news and bad news. The good news is my buddy has been egging this punk on about the showdown and convinced him to raised the stake to $1,500 (the $500 is my buddy bet and $1,000 from me, this punk don’t know this though). I went to B of A today and got the $1,000. That bad news is he wants the best of three tugs. I agreed and my buddy now is holding all the money.

My concern now is the heath of my clutch for more than two runs should we go one each on the first two runs. It seems like the consensus is to go low and slow so I will start in 4L 1st and SW #3 on Mr. Smarty. For what its worth I have the new software (Smt4V410CD208B36. 7z Smarty S-06A Ver. 4. 10C, Data: 2. 08B Mild torque management increase) Man at this speed I can walk backwards faster.

I have a stock suspension so our hitches are about the same height. I have the standard hitch receiver and a regular 2” ball hitch I use to tow my 14’ fiberglass boat so I don’t know what the rating is for the standard receiver for the 3500 SRW. Where do I hook up the chain (laden with many heavy blankets) to the receiver or the ball hitch?

What kind of torque does his Toy gasser have? I calculated that with my Smarty I got him beat by at least 200lbs…what do you think? I have not done any dyno on mine but what do you guys estimate my HP and TQ #s are by my signature?

I will be picking up 50-60 bags of top soil Saturday from Home Depot to do my yard so I’ll just leave that on the truck for additional weight till after the showdown Sunday. Do you think the weight will hurt me since I will be approaching 10,000lbs or more?

My son will be back in town Sunday morning with a digital video and still cameras to document hopefully his defeat and my victory. I told him he will be here or else? He is an expert on posting videos on the net.

Did I forget anything?

Stock or with Smarty you will kick his a**.

I dynoed 391/809 on Smarty level 5. There is no way he has more then 400 or so.

Just don't slip your clutch and it will do 3 pulls no problem.

I'd be a little concerned about using first gear in 4LOW. I think that you could develop too much torque on your trans and driveline. I think second or third would be better.
