A Little More Progress For The 03

Has Anyone Removed The Exhaust Resonator Mega Cab

I have been running the truck with the Smarty for several months. No problems and it runs great. I just got a TST R49AP. Installed it yesterday and have tried dozens of different levels on the smarty and tst. On any setting with the tst above zero, I get a popping noise out of the exhaust and it runs horrible. I have tried the Smarty on 5,6,7,8 and 9 and the tst on 0-6 power and 0-3 on tq. No timing with the tst, or pressure. When I run a lower setting on the smarty, the truck just loses power, no matter what setting on the tst. Its like the tst isn't doing anything other than making the egts go through the roof and make it pop. I've tried it with the Smarty moderate program and the wild program. I've tried it with the tst rail harness plugged and unplugged. I alos took the smarty off and ran just the TST. Not even close to just running the Smarty. Any ideas? The only thing different is that this tst has the blue wire for the fuel pump harness, which I don't have. My fass is just wired to a fuse. Byt the way this is on a 2006 auto with built trans and 5" exhaust, everything else is stock.

If it's a late '06, take off the TST as soon as possible.

For whatever reason, the newer trucks ('06. 5 to '07) don't play well with the TST. The injectors just hang open, causing melted pistons and mass carnage. Supposedly the programming is entirely different.

See the TST website.

If it's an early '06, then it's anyone's guess...

I'm hoping for TST to resolve this at some point. My TST was my second favorite mod on my '03 after the Smarty.

could he be running the rail dry with that much duration and stock fuel system??

Not with those settings...

I ran a TST for quite a while with a stock fuel system with no problems like he's describing.

What he is describing is similar to what I've read about TST incompatibility with late-build 5. 9's produced after 6/06.

I know mines a 305 motor, but I don't run timing on the SMARTY at all and use the TST for that. The SMARTY's timing and my truck don't get along. I just, just downlaoded the Beta yesturday and run 8 on the SMARTY with 3 degress of timing on the TST 0/4 with fuel pressure on 3 or 4 and it seems to be really happy there... Man my trucks so much more quite with the Beta on there!!! Thanks Bob

My truck was built on 06/2006. So I guess that is the problem. I took it off and it runs great again with just the smarty. I've owned several trucks and ran smartys on all of them and it has never disappointed me. I love it. Now I just need to find something to stack with it. Thanks for the info guys.

Blacks,

I built a Mega with a TST/Smarty stack with Johns CP3, and Don's injectors, and with the Smarty even on 1/0 or 0/1 there is a hard knocking under the hood. EGT's go sky high to, but this truck is an early '06. Wierd.

Well, I just got back from a 400 mile round trip. As I said earlier, I just pulled the tst off earlier today. Everything was fine until about half way home and the truck shut off on the interstate. I was running about 85 mph. I let the truck coast and finally it just started running again. When it shut off, all the dash lights came on like you just had turned the key on. So it ran fine until we were about 10 miles from home and it quit again, this time at a stop light. So I just cranked it and it started right up. At this point I was thinking the FASS was dying on me. But then, about 5 miles from home it quit again. This time it wouldn't start up again. After letting the fass run a while and cranking it long and hard, it finally started up and we went about another mile and it died again and I coasted a minute and it started running again. Now the injectors are making a little louder than normal rattle. Sounds like timing rattle but louder. So when I get home, I shut it down and crank it back several times and it takes it a few seconds longer to start than normal. Now I'm wandering if the tst caused the injectors to malfunction. Is that possible? I also thought it may be water in the fuel, but I was hoping the FASS filters would save me from that. I'm gonna put a gauge on the CP-3 inlet pressure in the morning.
