Smarty question,.....timing vs. no timing

What's the pros/cons of Smarty #2 vs. #3. They're both 60hp, but one with timing, one without. What's the advantage or disadvantage of changing the timing? thanks.

Theoretically, the timing advance will provide a bit better fuel mileage at part throttle.

the timing does do some for milage. The other reason for it is if you are stacking the smarty with a box that does timing already. The combination of the 2 timing offsets would create a very poor running engine

I've seen about a 2mpg improvement with smarty on #3, but I do get some rattle or ping (but I'm used to it because it's hardly noticably going down the highway). My truck is 2003 305/555.

with my smarty on #3, the only time i get any timing rattle i am concerned about is when i lug the engine off a dead stop and give it full fuel. knocks like an old diesel then
