Hey guys what is the high idle? I have a smarty on my 03 and don't seem to have any setting for high idle. Could someone let me know if I can have this function on the 03, and how do I go about getting it? Thanks

It's an automatic program that brings the idle up if certain criteria are met.

1) Coolant temp<140*

2)Air temp <32

3)It's in park or for stick neuatral w/p brake on and no pedal applications.

I think there was one or two others I can't remember. Also, if air temp drops below 15* it shuts off 3 cylinders and the thing makes all sorts of noise. I half expect to see a piston fly through the hood due to all the racket, but it doesn't harm the engine. Actually it good for it to get all warmed up. I had the dealer program it for me years ago before I bought my Smarty. There is a TSB for it but I can't remember the number. The dealer didn't really know what I was taking about, so I just gave him the TSB number and told him to do it. Charged me 40 bucks. Not too bad.

Once you step on the clutch or brake or throttle it disengages and goes back to normal. I'm not sure it they have it for the 12 valves, though. Never asked.

I'll have to try that. I do that with the commercial truck that I drive for my boss, but no one has ever told me that it was possible on my Dodge. I think the difference for me is that I got the dealership program which I've seen in writing says it's automatic. I can only guess that yours works w/ the buttons because it's the Smarty version. I haven't had reason to try it since I installed the Smarty. I wonder which version will take precedent in the ECM. I'll give it a try next time I drive the truck. See that-I learned something today.

Hit the On button, the cruise light should light up. Then hit set and it should ramp up to 1000. hitting Accel after that will allow it to go up even more, up to 1500rpm. Smarty should take precedence in the ecm.

The 03 does not have the capability of the driver controled hi idle, that started sometime in 04.

So I guess that means my 01 won't either. Just for kicks I'll try it, but if not, I'll be happy with the dealer installed version. Been doing fine by me all this time.

Just tried the cruise control for the high idle and it doesn't work on my 01. Just the dealer programmed automatic one does. Good enough.

That seems wierd that it would'nt work on the 03. There has to be a way to bypass something with the cruise control so you can use it with the truck idling and in neutral. Has anyone got it working on the 03? I would like to have the option to idle it up when sitting for extended periods of time. If anyone has got it to work on a 03 please chime in. Thanks
