Hey guys:

I've got a June 2006 Megacab (see sig) and have a TST CR R49 on it. When I stand on the throttle, it pulls fairly strong until about 2200 RPM and then all he!! breaks loose. The truck belches a huge cloud of smoke, and I get timing rattle that sounds like a barrel full of ball bearings. It screams and pulls very, very hard, but the timing rattle sounds unhealthy. I have set the Smarty programming back to "Stock" to see if maybe the Smarty was adding too much timing, but it still exhibits the same symptom. I have the TST manual timing advance turned "off", and the auto advance turned "on".

What are your experiences with the TST? Is this normal? I'm probably going to have to get rid of this thing unless you guys can convince me that this is a) normal for the TST, and b) safe for the engine.

Thanks

a) It is not normal

b) depends on what is really going on

A while back there were complaints from some that they had flat spot in that rpm range. But have not seen any lately.

What is the timing set to? I think default is 12*.

What program is selected?

Do you have the Rail Pressure option?

Do you see Rail Pressure drop at that point?

Normal trouble shooting, check all wiring harnesses, fuse taps, etc.

Yes, I have the RP option, but TST told me not to connect it. I believe this is a problem only on the 2006 versions. Trouble is, because of the injector harness, this will only fit a 2006, so the RP option is useless.

The timing is set to the "auto" mode. The manual timing is "off. "

All harnesses and plugs are clean and tight.

I guess I'll try to get to the TST tech line and see what they have to say...

Late 2006, take it of now before you melt the pistons and generally destroy the engine!

The TST has problems working on any of the electronics from 06. 5 and up.

Is this really true? I now have a 07 5. 9 and was gonna send the tst in for update and new injector harness. Maybe not now. The edge juice sounds better everyday.

Works on Early 2006 Only?

So, will my TST work for an early 2006? It won't work on a 2005, because the injector harnesses are different.

Probably a pretty limited number of folks out there with a 2006 with a build date before June 06.

Anybody want to buy it? It's coming off. :{

Need to get the 05 injector harness and it will work. They seem to work fine on the early 06 models.

There were probably as many trucks built in early 2006 as opposed to late 2006. Advertise it and you should find a taker as the TST is a good piece. :)

Would it be safe to put on a tst and just not hook up the rail pressure. I was about to buy one, until yesterday a friend of mine told me about the prob with melting pistons.

Before you take it off try this one thing first if you haven't already. turn the tst timing off completely and only run the smarty timing. Smartys timing seems to work a little better than tst' and when stacked (tst & smarty) it seems to work best with just the smarty timing. Worth a shot before you take it off. Good luck.

NO!

For some reason the injectors hang open with the TST in place. TST is not sure why this happens with the '06. 5-'07 trucks. According to some the late '06-'07 trucks are a "whole different animal" causing unexpected results even for downloaders (like tons of smoke in comparison to earlier trucks).

I got on here to post a question and I seen this thread. I am also having problems with my TST. I have a March 06 mega-cab. I am currently running my by-pass plug for the TST and my Smarty (beta 4. 4) on 9. I get no codes and no problems only crazy smoke with the TST by-passed. The Smarty smokes more than the TST but even with it on 9 (TST by-passed) I can barely hit 1200egt with a silver bullet. The only problem I am having running my by-pass plug is my rail pressure gauge (Dipricol) will slowly start climbing after about 20mi. of driving. It will eventually go all the way past 30 and will be pointing straight down. I'm not sure what's causing this but I know it's not reading right. When I remove the by-pass and plug the TST back in as soon as I start the truck it will have a miss. It's sound more like a backfire. The whole truck will jerk. I have 6" stacks and it really magnifys the miss or backfire. It's really loud and embarassing my truck sounds like it has the hick-ups. It may do it every 10-20 seconds or it might be a few minutes in between hick-ups. It pretty much does it at an idle. I have noticed it a few times at below 2000 rpm. It has never done it at WOT. The only code that I get is low voltage to the cam sensor. I get this one constantly but I'm told this is normal for a TST. I also get the very load timing rattle when I run the TST. I put my Smarty on 8 (no timing) and I don't mess with the TST timing and I leave the rail press. off. My rail pressure guage will also read right on the money with the TST rail guage. I've worked out all the other glitches and problems I've had so far but the miss and the Dipricol guage reading way to high with the TST by-passed has got me stumped. I'm going to send my box to TST and see if they can get rid of the miss.

I have a friend looking for a tst box for his 06 megacab that was made 10 of 05 would this truck be ok for a tst box or would you look for somthing else he wont be stacking this anything but dosnt want problems either what would you guys suggest

Thanks

DeDecker

when they work, they work great. I still have mine, and will sell it cheap. It's been off my truck since last March. Probably has less than 10 hours on it.

Is tst having problems though with the all 06 trucks or just some of them i didnt know they made any changes in 06 that some trucks would be ok and others would have issues. What would you want for your used tst?

Thanks

DeDecker

According to TST, the box works on May 2006 and earlier build dates. The 2006 harness is different than the 2005s, so this box will only work on a 2006 model year truck, with a build date of May 2006 or sooner.

So, this should work on your friends truck ok.

What do I want for it? Send me a PM and we'll discuss.
