At what point will the $$$ of Diesel Fuel really

get to you????? I mean as of today the $$$ of Diesel is almost $3. 50 where I live... . and I know for some of you it could be almost that much a DROP and you'd still drive a diesel ... but at this cost and what I see in the future - jo six pac's not going to be able to use his rig like he did in the past... . I know I will not buy a big 5th wheel or TT - how about you guys?????



I know we can justify a lot of things - but the huge increased cost of fuel is now hurting a lot of folks - and couple that with the 30+% increase in heating fuel oil - apparently no end of the greed in sight ... ... .

I need to tow something! This new 6. 7 at 11 mpg is a big disappointment, hell the p/w gets 13 mpg and gas is . 25 a gal cheaper!! wtf just nuke them and take the oil!!!

I certainly hope you're kidding when you say that! In fact ... I'd suggest that before you put anything like that down in writing, you take a deep breath and think about what you are proposing.



We don't own the oil in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iran, (I could go on). It just so happens they are nice enough to sell it to us to satisfy our appetite for energy.

I remember when you started a thread like this 2 1/2 years ago, (4/1/05 to be exact), which started a "spirited" debate. I said back then, (and I'll say it again), we're in deep doo doo. And I'll also say it again ... "you ain't seen nothing yet" as far as energy prices are concerned. My suggestion ... Let's use our ingenuity to come up with energy alternatives, talk our government into letting us buy some of those fuel-sipping diesel vehicles that are available in Europe, and learn to adapt.

The price of diesel's effect on you and your truck should be the least of your worries, you can control that. What I'm worried about is it's effect on the economy. Everything that effects your life is touched by diesel. The price of food, electricity, supplies, clothing, etc. is effected by the price of diesel fuel. When folks can't pay their credit card bills because of the rise in their cost of living, then the banks will call the notes and all hell will break loose.



It's coming boys, look at what's happening in the housing market. I heard yesterday that they're looking for property values to drop up to 30% because of foreclosures on porperty due to what's happening in the mortgage business.

SBall is got it right, This ain't nothing. Fact is, fossil fuels are a finite resource that is (slowly) running out. Supply and demand, and demand is getting much higher pushed forward a lot by China. Fossil fuels is just one of many resources we are scouring the earth for. There just plain too many people on the planet and there will be consequences. Oh yeah, people moan and groan about gas prices but I still see people driving 80 - 90 mph on the interstate and 20 year old kids with no health insurance, and no though of investing, driving lifted trucks that get 10mpg. It's just lip service until people stop driving big vehicles they don't need, too fast, with all kind of gas burning toys behind it. Fuel prices are going up and everyone is going to have to make changes in their lives to deal with it, changes none of us want to do. Driving more practice vehicles, moving closer to work, getting rid of those toys, etc. Fuel is still cheaper that most anywhere else in the world. If the gov. will keep isn't nose out of the markets, the higher fuel prices will drive "free" enterprise to come up with real alternatives. (Not fake alternatives like this ethanol/tax subsidy thing that is being pushed now). For right now, it's way cheaper for me to pay 3-4 dollars a gallon than by something new that is more efficient. So I'm just gonna suck it up, shut my mouth and pay what it cost and not drive anymore than I have to.

No, but we bailed Kuwait out of a genocide... as far as I'm concerned, they owe us.



I'm down to driving the truck once in a while... have a DD that nets 30+mpg, can't justify driving the truck other than I want to...

What's scary is the stock market keeps climbing and climbing... and it seems unaffected by the current state of the housing market. I'm afraid its all going to come crashing down...



The wife and I are wanting to buy another house... we are waiting for a couple months to catch up on some longtime bills, then we might just buy another house and keep both.

It's no one's fault but our own. We keep buying these large trucks to haul all of our toys everywhere we go. Then we keep buying bigger and bigger trailers and toyhaulers, then we need a bigger and heavier truck to haul these things. We keep the pressure on Dodge to make bigger trucks, 4500, 5500. Soon we'll start demanding 6500 to keep up with Ford F650. Then we drive these big trucks to work every day instead of getting a small Toyota or Honda for our commuting. None of us are slowing down any. None of us are driving less miles, in fact we brag about how many miles we drive a year. I'm no acceptation, I just bought a new 5er and it's bigger and heavier then the slide-in camper I had. What will it take for us to wake up?

YUP - what we need is a reality based comparison between the financial health of the stock market, and that of the average USA citizen...



Just because the stock market is doing well, doesn't mean the average citizen is too!

Why is it that california is the leader in epa issues but it wil not let dealers sell cars that get 45-50 mpg? Why is it that my new truck gets 40% less fuel milage, but uses more fuel to make up for the smog eqp to burn cleaner? who are the people behind the stock market that keep the prices going up? Take a look at the government and their are the answers!

Gas prices over the years has really made us change things or look at it differntly. My Diesel pickup sits most of the time and I'm only using it when towing or hauling at this point. When we bought my wife a car last summer we got a Toyota Camry Hybrid just to get the better mileage. We have put 25,000 miles on the car in one year, 6,000 on my pickup, we use to drive the pickup all the time. My daily driver and run around vehicle when not using my wifes car, and for my 6 mile commute is a Ford Excursion about 6,000 miles in the last year. I am seriously considering selling it or trading it in on a new car. Been seriously looking at the BMW Series 1 coming soon or BMW 3 Series. I really would like a diesel in a small Beemer or Mercedes but don't want to have to spend 50K plus on a E320 just to get diesel. When I bought my Excursion, gas was 1. 20/gallon todays its 3/gallon. Now when driving somewhere I always take the car if I can. We can afford the extra for gas, but have better uses for it then sending more money to the mideast. I too wish we could get some of the diesel cars that Europe gets.

I'm spending about $150 on diesel, and $65 for elec for my all elec home. The wifes Honda Accord is about another $120. Energey is still one of my cheapest expenses. My vehicle and school loans for my kids is what's driving me broke, but I'll hopefully have all three vehicle loans paid off next year. For those who buy a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel truck to drive to work because it's cool, you have a choice. For those who use the truck for it's intended purpose, well ... we simply pay the price and try not to complain too much.
