follow up to my previous thread of the same name. my cab was mounted about a half inch toward the driver side.

this was so easy to fix... . nerve wracking, but easy.

i'm guessing there was an element of luck that all the sheet metal (front fenders, doors... . ) stayed aligned.

i finally got tired of looking at a crooked truck. after about an hour and a half of measuring stuff, it became apparent the bed was spot on and the cab was the culprit.

i simply loosened the eight body mounts and climbed under the truck, braced my legs against the bottom of the cab such that if it broke loose it would be pushed toward the passenger side... ... . got the truck rocking back and forth real good and after a short while POP. the whole thing slid.

things were not totally lined up yet as the two most forward mounts didn't budge. very careful not to bend the fenders, i braced my arms under the driver front fender and got her rocking and again i got the desire sound effects.

spent another hour measuring to be sure, slowly opening and shutting the doors and hood and i am proud to say all measurements were within a 16th of an inch... ... . by my standards that's spot on.

i can stand to look at her again.

now my adjustable track bar needs re-adjusted though.

my only caution for this is, i don't know if an older truck would budge as easily. mine is only nine months old.

i guessed at 100 lbft for torqueing the mounts back down... ... anyone know what they're supposed to be torqued to??

one more thing. the front four body mounts were holding water and rust in them. as soon as i cracked em loose a few table spoons of rusty water drained out of each of them. remember, she's only nine months old and in socal.

we've gotten a little rain ( san diego doesn't get much ) here the last couple days but i was alarmed by this.

i intend to revisit this looking for a way to seal them or a place to drill a small drain hole.

i'll post it.

apologies for pushing my own thread to the top again.

i have two questions on this still.

1. recommended torque for body mounts?

2. Measurement of gap between cab and bed if some one could run to the drive way with a tape measure?

my gap is 1 and 1/16 inches all the way across. i failed get this measurement prior to as i was so concerned with side to side alignment.

I looked up the cab mounting bolt torque and it is 60lb. ft.

Can you post pictures of the four body mounts that hold the water? Or can you tell us which of the six they are? Thanks.

the front four mounts, two on each side. the two right in front of the front tires and the two right after.

thanx... . i over torqued by a long shot.

let me know if you still need pics, i'll get the neigbors kid to help me post em.

Foolkiller,

I guess the quality assurance dept had the day off at the time your truck rolled off the line. No eyeball inspections. Dat sux. Where was the truck manufactured? Still some coming (I'm sure) from Mexico?

some pics of the results... ... i failed to take pictures prior to the fix but just imagine everything off by a half inch.

That sure is surprising, where was your truck built?

mexico i think..... what's the difference? not like you get anything done right the first time here either.

when i ordered the truck, i remember a short discussion of where it'd be built and frankly, with the options listed it didn't matter. i wish japan was on the list. then i would have had a preference.

doen't say any of those things but it does say "Made in the USA"

If it was assembled in St Louis may explain why all the misalignment and other mishaps. Trucks assembled in Saltillo, Mexico rarely have such problems. I truly wish it was the other way around.

I almost asked where the the truck was built when I first saw his complaint. My Mexico truck was perfect, but my current U. S. truck the bed and cab do not align either.
