Gale Banks Engineering DMax Type D debuts 8. 64 SMOKE FREE!!!!

The world of Diesel motorsports was rewarded with a view in to the future. The long awaited Gale Banks Sidewinder Dmax Type D , rocketed down the track on its third ever pass with a 8. 64 @ 150 MPH pass . As mandated by Gale it was absolutely smoke free, not even a hint.

I watched for the last three days impatiently like a kid waiting for Christmas morning, as final assembly and check outs were accomplished. The engineers and craftsman worked 18 hour days and the results look more like a NASA space project then any race program I have even been a part of. I was in awe of the ability, and the technology that these guys possessed, the fit and finish was more like a Swiss watch. Guys its no wonder the products you work on during the day are the best engineered money can buy. Just like my self these guys for the most part are on their own time.

I have not been behind the wheel for over a year in anything fast, so at my request the first pass was to go to the very capably team driver Wes Anderson. I had one pass and then climbed out of the race car and in to Gale’s waiting supercharged Mercury Marauder, hanging on as Gale maneuvered the streets of L. A. like a road racer , rushed to the airport

This one event will change the way diesel motorsports will been seen from now on , this engine is in reality very streetable and was to be installed in to the D Max type R 24 hour endurance road race truck. I asked, pleaded, begged, and pestered Gale in to making the race in Vegas. This motor will run at full power and full RPM for hours at a time, with Zero Breakage, The future is here and the SMOKE BOYS are served notice.

These 1100 hp motors are available now just call, and for any that might say I’m advertising for GBE , I’m a volunteer , receiving nothing but the opportunity to drive the newest and soon to be the quickest diesel truck on the planet . and coming soon Dmax Digger

Well, that is pretty impressive, but who cares, it's a Duramax we here are sort of what you would call Dodge Cummins enthusiasts, with a big emphasis on Cummins. Post again when you can get a real diesel engine to accomplish that, it will likely be even faster since it is a superior engine platform to begin with. I am a fan of Banks products though, I have the Six Gun with Speedloader and love it, I wouldn't trade it for a Smarty unless you paid me $500, I have tried the Smarty extensively and it is good but I live in a city and huge black clouds of smoke are unnaceptable, the polution is really irresponsible since we have melting icecaps and all too.

Talk about stealing someones thunder, LMAO. . Well put.

LMAO @ the blind loyalists!

fully programable EFI, more displacement, real cylinder heads, etc.

have you seen the vid of the pass? it truly was smoke-free!

you have to throw more money at a d-max to hold the power, but they are very capable performers.

Well, I still think it is very impressive but lets see it on a cummins. I almost fell asleep during the intro, what a borefest, the video should have been edited down to 8. 64 seconds (snore free).

So how much is this Banks motor going to cost? Complete turn key with fuel system and electronics and charger.

?

Did anyone expect any less? Who would have a bigger budget than banks? Who would have more time and resources for r/d?? MONEY is what wins races, look at top fuel, any of them. As far as the heads go, there are about a zillion chevy guys to one mopar guy, their market will justify billet heads no problem, heck i wouldn't be suprised to see DART start making billet aluminum dmax blocks in conjunction with socal, the skies the limit concerning the amount of money the chevy guys are willing to throw down. For street guys, we love our stock bottom ends and the ability to run a million miles without a ring job, they love to spend big bucks and win wars of attrition, apples to oranges in a nutshell. When was the cummins block developed? 1972 round about?? I love my old dependable stuff but kudos to banks for being rich and ???

Deep breath

i must apologize for the previous rant, it's not meant to take away from the accomplishment by Banks and co. i just wish it was Mopar cars in hot rod that i would be seeing getting cummins engins swapped in instead of dmaxs, the chevy guys are working overtime to make this the small block chevy of the diesel world, I would like the cummins to be the equivalent of the 426 hemi. Back on track, should be a good race btwn the s10 and the dakota.

You'll never see a Cummins swapped in for a small-ish V8. All drag racers look at weight. Given a choice between an 800# V8 and a 1200# I-6, it is obvious which engine will be chosen, on weight alone.

Hey, I'm with you, everyone is like Chevy this and Chevy that. Well, I helped build a 1972 Gold Duster with a 340, bottom end, top end, air gap intake, 750 demon carb, heads on and on, everything but a super charger and hearing and running it, I still haven't rode in a car yet that impressed me as much as that one... Mopar's have a sound all of the own, well mustangs too, but if I ever get a car of my own to rebuild, it will be a Demon, Dart, Swinger, or something mopar... WE'd go to the Rt 66 car show in San Berando and you'd see 10 Camero's 5 Mustangs and then a Mopar.

Jim, I hear ya loud and clear... I've been wanting to swap a cummins into a car for a WHILE now. but those old boats were never designed to fit an engine the size of a trolley car under the hood! :( :(

but... they WERE designed to fit a big block V8

the 97 Cummins I bought as an engine/transmission donor? I'm talking about trading it for a d-max drivetrain!

Old Gale and his millions are once again able to do something pretty cool.

Running 8's is impressive in anything - even more impressive in a diesel.

I've got some questions:

How much nitrous does this thing burn in a pass?

Is it running 100% synthetic diesel fuel - or gas to liquid (GTL) fuel? (like the Audi R10 TDI... )

Does it have particulate filters or catalysts?

Does it run anything else exotic or not commonly known? (I have a feeling that this info will leak out over time anyhow... )

Beers,

Matt

Dang you Matt.

You just took all the words from my mind as I was reading this thread I was thinking of these exact same things.

Same questions as Matt. Waiting on some answers.

If you are going to brag about no smoke, which is a good thing, then we need to know about the nitrous. I would also like to know the weight, I didn't notice it anywhere.

As far as Banks having money to toss at it? what the heck that's what I'd do if I had it.
