have been relocating customers lift pump to the frame rail for years, using vulcan/genos relocation kit,and airtex e7153 pumps (reboxed carter). went to do one the other day, pulled the pump out of the box and it was different looking, thought it was boxed wrong. ordered anther one and same pump in box. called airtex and spoke to the engineer that actully made the new pump. he said they have been working on there own pump design for about a year. he stated that if they sold 100 reboxed carters, they got 150 bad carters back.

he said the new pump design is way better than the old carter style, flows about 10-15% more than the carter design. told him this is all fine & dandy, but it has a male banjo bolt sticking out of one end. they made it this way to fit in the stock location. after talking to him i needed to come up with a way to relocate this pump onto the frame rail. i made a sleeve to accept the an-6 x 12mm fitting in the relocation kit on one end, and a counter bored 12mm thread on the other end. should have the first one installed tonight, will post pics.

Sounds great, never have to many options for a Dodge fuel system, I guess my main question would be , does it let fuel bypass if it does fail, or does it still become a fuel block like the old style? otherwise great news. somebody start making some adapter fittings and it will be a hit.

Well at least now we have an idea of what MAV1 was talking about in his post. One question for you, Scot, is that sleeve snug enough to make sure that banjo fitting doesn't leak? I've never been a fan of the banjo fittings... . weird engineering, imo... . sticking a hose on a fitting seems better to me, for some reason.

should not be a concern, used a sealing washer on the pump side, and on the fitting side. then just snug up the fitting which in turn snugs the adapter to the pump.

How do we get in touch with you to purchase the adapters for locating the pump where the Carter is now? I am very interested in a reliable pump that does not cost a fortune.

Scot, I'd be interested in seeing numbers from you or your customers on this newly designed Airtex replacement pump. I've not had good luck with Airtex in the past, so I'm a bit skeptical, but if there's something out there that runs as good as the big $$$ boys, I'll buy it.

I have relocated my pump to the frame rail using the Vulcan kit. It does make it easier to change the pump when it goes bad. Even the Cummins shop I had one of the pumps replaced at thought having it relocated was a good idea. He changed the pump in about 10 minutes which included him going through his service department for the new pump.

ACTUALLY, if this IS just an adaptation of the Walbro Ford Mustang in-tank model GSS-340 (as I recall), it will ABSOLUTELY block fuel flow if it fails! It is a gearotor design, rather than the vane type like the Carter - and the Carter WILL usually allow SOME fuel flow if it dies, which is why many owners are running around with failed LP's and don't realize it until they do a fuel filter change.

When the Walbro type fails, you WILL be stopped DEAD in your tracks, wherever you are when/if that happens! ;)

To get around that potential issue, I have added am automatic flow bypass around mine that will only activate if the Walbro fails:
