I have been tryin to get a grip on the best settings for my truck. I have asked here and on other forums but have not got anywhere. So I figured I'd start a new thread. I have been under the impression from what I have read that my TST had timing and fuel settings.

I called TST and spoke with a tech today and he said that the TST does not have specific timing/fuel control. It has a max timing that is controled by rpm and boost pressure.

I ran the dyno at TST on the 6th with my Smarty #4 and TST 5/5. It was way too hot for my mods. I ran the settings like I did because I wanted the timing of the TST for the top end. I want to try the Smarty timing and just add some fuel with the TST and see how it runs. But now I am at a loss of how to run it because I don't want to have too much timing and cause a problem. I'm going to hit the 1/8th mile track tomorrow in Amarillo and see what she runs.

What settings have you ran for top HP?

Also, I've read that the Smarty #5 is the best all around setting for HP/TQ. Is that what you see, or are the higher settings that much stronger?

Thanks, Randy

TST 5/5 is, all by itself, way more fuel than most trucks can utilize.

Try Smarty about SW#8, TST 0/5, with your mods, this is about all you can handle.

Start downfueling from there, you will find, you will have more hp w/less fuel.

On my 325/600 I run Smarty #8, TST 05tt program, TST timing set to 15* Auto, setting TST to 2/0 hp/te and EZ on Level 2. On 2/0 all the TST is doing is controlling max timing based on what ever is happening otherwise and it does make a difference on mine.

BTW it took me a long time before I would listen to Michael at HotRodDiesels who kept telling me to turn the darn box down some.

My best has been around Smarty 8 TST (test program) 3/1 and EZ 3 for the dyno. Everybody I say to start out with the settings low always trys to argue with me too. I guess they just have to live and learn

My truck on a dyno dynamics with smarty beta 4. 2 on SW#9 TST on 2/0 no timing on TST and EZ unhooked did 540 at 2400 rpm. The dyno runs kept dropping off after 2400 don't know why but it did.

Looks like most have settled into the same basic stack settings. TST 2/0 thru 3/1 not a lot of difference in the long run. Get just a little out of TST and some pressure maybe and then #8 or #9 on the Smarty betas.

I do know the Beta 4. 4sl does not smoke near as much as the Wild TQ released software on mine.

My TST is an older version. It does not have the adjustable timing. Looks like you guys are getting more out the TST's timing than the Smarty timing. I haven't had any "play" time lately, so I will have to try out those settings.

I would suggest calling TST and see what it would cost to upgrade to a R49. It was well worth the cost to me for all of the additional features. Heck the cool down timer alone was worth it for me, not to mention all the programs and options.

That sounds like a good idea. I won a $100 gift certificate from TST earlier this month by winning the commonrail dyno class. That would be a good way to spend it.

Even more reason to do it. All of the options and EGT and Boost gauge display are great. Like I said the cool down timer is very nice. I did not think I would use it much, but I don't know how I could do without it now.
