Don't you honestly think the Big Pickup days are Over???

I mean the beauty is in the eye of the beholder - TIRES have tread designs that attract us - like the other topic - But essentially we have ZERO analytical information to actually know what we're talking about with regard to TRACTION as an example... . Look at mud and snow ratings - the tire treads that have this ratings are all over the place - yet we actually have No Data that shows tread A does X and ---well you get the idea... .

We all know that we look at the "Mudders" and say wow - that ought to "get'r done --" BUT we really have no reason to choose A over B rather than our Gut Feeling... ... I mean nobody has put these tires to the test to see if one actually performs better... ... Myself included - I think we're being duped on the tire thing ... ...

Most of my 4wheel drive mags test alot of tires and compare the results... . you could go by those somewhat... .

Tirerack.com tests and rates their tires for performance in different categories-- Wet, dry, snow, etc. It is helpful to compare the brands they have, but it doesn't include all tires.

At least tires have some indication of what to expect stamped on their side. A set of 4 women will cost a lot more than a set of tires. ;)

Tire engineers aren't just sitting there drawing pretty pictures, they know what there doing.

Some are big & round, some tall & skinny and there's all kinds of in between. There's always the occasional flat ones, but no worries-- There's are a few different ways of fixing those. Bald ones are just plain scary.

Size is an improtant consideration. Too small is not good, but too big and there's a lot of wear and tear on other parts. You're looking at some suspension problems down the road for sure. Some members are satisfied with D's, but some just have to find E's. They claim they're stiffer, but I'm not sure I could feel the difference.

Shop around and check out as many as you can.

some are closely shaved and some are big and hairy... treads, I mean:D

Some are better suited for the jungle, some for the landing strip... . sorry I coudln't resist that one. :D:D

it may seem like we are just picking tires like we do women... ... . and i think we are too.

but that's not all bad. really, we are looking at the tires and subconciously making decisions based on our experiences/desires and what we think will give us the desired performance.

sometimes we're wrong and we learn and make a different choice next time.

also the desired performance changes over time and so the tire choices evolve as well... ... .

... which sucks because i can't find any tires that are plump and juicy.

At least with tires you can try out a new one and if things don't go well you can go back to the old one no questions asked:D

some have alot more miles on them than others :D some can take a bigger load than others.

i chose my tires based on what others with similar trucks doing similar things told me. i also asked trustworthy shops.

Over time they get worn out and run down. The sidewalls start to flex too much and they don't give as nice a ride. Eventually they have to be replaced.

tires are cheaper... i just paid 850. for new tires but, i bet it will cost me 850,000 for a new woman... and probably no improvment in ride quality
