Well, I got to go to the VIP night at the new Cabela's in Reno! It's only about half the size of the "big" stores (it's "only" 125,000sf), but it is a nice store. I managed to help the economy more than anticipated. :-laf They had a band and free drinks. The staff was absolutely great; everyone was very friendly and seemed pretty knowledgable. Reno is going to be a destination sporting goods town. Scheel's is slated to open sometime next year with a 250,000sf store and Bass Pro Shops is hopefully coming in 2009. Oo. WOOHOO!

I can't imagine Reno being able to support all three of those massive stores not including the Sportsman's Warehouse which is already there. Talk about market saturation... But I digress...

I'll be up there for the gun show on the weekend of the 30th and have to hit Cabela's then. I can't wait. My first Cabela's experience other than the internet... .

I've been to the big Cabela's in KC and its sweet. Even if I don't buy anything all the animal mounts and fish streams and displays make it fun. We did get a "small" store in St. Louis too, but its not at fun, only one aquarium, but we have a small Bass Pro here now too...

I think Reno's location in relation to larger towns and cities in CA will make it able to support the stores. We're only 2 hour from Sacramento and all those surrounding areas, 4 hours from the Bay. I heard too that the Sportsman's Warehouse will be moving to Douglas County, just south of Carson City.

They did put it as close to the border as they could, which will suck up Californians for sure. Two people from my work are going up there this weekend. Sportsman's Warehouse would probably do well if it moved to Carson maybe down by Costco and all that other stuff on the south end of town.
