napa has the radiator hoses

Going back to this post...

Everybody I called lists the part including two local NAPAs... ... . just no one stocks it.

I fianlly got squared away... actually the hose I got was too long on both legs but I was able to trim each end to fit.

Therin lies the rub... . about 1/2 to 3/4 the time I get parts they are correct. Not a good average.

Deo... thanks a bunch but I really need a pickup so let the vultures have a crack at it.

Hey! I'll have you know I resemble that remark!

:-laf

On the hoses, I think NAPA and others are into the "fitzall", it fits a buncha stuff, trim to fit. I don't mind, as long as I can get it to work.

there's tons of Rust Free OLder rigs

available in lots of places in the country... ... ..... I'm sure some TDR guys could help you out - BUT the problem most of the RUST BUCKET zone guys have is paying the $$$ for a rust free used rig..... most of the time a 10-15 year old rig in your area is almost worthless - because of the rust..... NOT so where they are "rustless"... ...

Well said, but that still doesn't address that other major problem of parts availability,or, how much total grief are you willing to put up with in your choice of transportation.

As I mentioned, it was fun (at first) to use an antique lawn tractor to rely upon for everyday use. However, the parts availablity alone took its toll on my nerves not to mention the maintenance.

I say get a newer car/truck if you don't want to wrench on it all the time or buy a southern truck and rebuild the entire thing. You'd look good in a 2WD Reg Cab Dually LE

Go for a 94-97 12v.

I have noticed that in my area the 12v 94-97's have been coming down in price.

I asked the local used car guy, he gets Diesels in alot, he said it was because of financing.

Alot of banks have decided not to finance older stuff for as long.

That $10k financed over 24 or 36 months is a little steep.

In May 2006 I financed a 97 for 5yrs just to get low payments.

I went back to the same bank for a 96 in May 2007 and tried the same thing.

They said no way.

When I asked them why and stated they had done the 97, they said the rules changed.

She said they had been "cracked down on".

Not sure what that means but it does bring prices down.

Now if you can find a lower mileage one you will be in luck.

I think I've had it, too.

I just came across a photo of my truck from when I brought it home in '01. It's gotten some rust since, but I didn't think it had gone downhill THAT much. I can't believe how good it looked!

Anyway, my power steering pump just went out... AGAIN#@$%! I replaced it in maybe '04.

What really stinks is when the stuff you DID fix breaks again before you get to the stuff you've been putting off!:{

Andy

Andy,

I feel your pain. It's all the little things that add up... even things like getting into the truck in the morning to find the seatbelt is frozen in the retractor... because the cab leaks someplace and gets the belt wet and now it's 15 degrees. #@$%!

"I say get a newer car/truck if you don't want to wrench on it all the time or buy a southern truck and rebuild the entire thing. "

I tried that, but the truck keeps coming up with stuff I didn't think to do.

Still cheaper than a new comfy one, parts payments way less than new truck payments!

Andy, I agree. I just installed my steering box again. PSC rebuilt it again free, but I did not enjoy pulling and replacing in the snow. (kid had car in many pieces in the shop#@$%!)

All in all though. I must admit that the old Dodge is a kick in the pants to drive and fun and easy to BOMB! Not just power stuff either, I am enjoying tweaking things for my preferences. I find that with a cheap truck, I am not adverse to modifying on a whim. Sooner or later, I have to run out of things to rebuild, no??

I keep telling myself I'm gonna buy a brand spankin' new 6. 7L (with a manual transmission of course) and leave the thing bone stock just to get me to work and back. If anything breaks, let it be Dodge's problem. I love tweaking my truck, and I wanna keep doing it, but there comes a point when you realize you're trying to squeeze every last drop of horsepower you can out of a decade and a half old truck, with 247k miles, and still think that its going to take you 16 miles to work and 16 miles home, through snow, cold, rain, and heat, without a single thing going wrong. ONLY... ONLY... ONLY time you'll hear of anything like that is among 1st gen owners. How many Mustange 5. 0 fanatics you see driving that car to work every day at 300+ horse. Never mind you don't see them for half the year while the salt and snow take their toll. And to top it all off, the mileage. I don't believe theres another type of passenger vehicle other than Dodge/Cummins trucks that people are hot rodding at anything over 150k miles. Just stop and think about that for a while.

My '93 would be my fun mess around hot rod, and my '08 could be my daily driver. I wouldnt get real stupid and trailer my '93 or anything. I just want something to get to work. If my '93 breaks down on the way to pick some girl up, or to church, or to the bar, oh well... anytime other than going to work.

Get an '08, keep it stock other than a nice brush guard for splattering deer on the way to my place up north without messing up the front end. I'd be ok with that. (I can hear the "boos" already). I just wouldnt wanna mess up a "pretty" truck.

Whats the difference between a 3rd gen owner and a 1st gen owner? When a 3rd gen owner sees a deer in the road he thinks "body work" and hits the brakes. When a first gen owner sees a deer in the road he thinks "dinner" and hits the gas.
