off road fuel questions?

Hello gang .

Here's my question I was wondering if off road diesel fuel would damage my engine ?



I have an 05 3500 4x4 single rear wheel quad cab.



I work alot on my farm and don't see why I couldn't use the red fuel while on my farm .

I know the legal aspects already.



It sure would save some money if I could use it.

I had to run some once and I didn't notice any difference.

Won't hurt the engine. Will hurt your wallet (BIG time) if you get caught driving on the road with it in your tank. I've heard mixed stories about how often and where people will get dipped.

North of the 49th we can run dyed fuel in anything as long as it is for farm use. Just have to have clear in when you head south. They ask you right at the border and will dip your tank.

I beleive that it is the same has marine diesel how the sulpher content of these fuels differs I'm not sure. ie could you run off road/marine diesel in a 07' ultra low sulpher fuel only truck?

Where we buy our fuel it has been ULSD since last summer. All other distributors should have ULSD by now.

No difference except the color. The price is different due to some taxes are'nt applied to offroad.

The dot likes to visit farm auctions. The dip when no one is looking and then wait for you on the road.

I have bever been dipped to my knowledge.

Ive run many tanks of it with no ill effects in my 03. Really is no benifit because all the off road fuel is pink now and not that much cheaper than on road. Most farm tanks Ive seen and used are not the cleanest either. Ive had a few plugged filters from dirty farm fuel tanks.

They randomly stick at license checks down here(Al). I haven't been yet..... but I know people who have been. I've been told that the dye can stay in the system awhile too. Something about the dye lining the fuel system and taking more than one tank to flush out.

Yep, I've heard that also, may take quite a while to get totally out of the system.

Ok guys I know the legal aspects.

Was just wondering if the off road fuel would cause any mechanical problems like with the injectors or pumps?

If I did start using the red fuel would I need to add any fuel additives ?

No, it will not hurt anything mechanically.

it will actually be better for the fuel system, it is still high sulphur and will lube the pump better than road fuel

If you're on Private Property and they open your tank... in all the places I know - this is an illegeal search without a warrant and or probable cause! Woth the $$$ of fuel you should have a locking fuel cap anyway... .

i have been pouring the red dye down the throat of a new 6. 7 with no problems yet, its a 2008 with all the egr crap too

RE: Dipping

This simply means that the Highway Patrol - or other agency - will insert a device into your fuel tank to determine if you are running "off-road" diesel, which is dyed red or pink.



It is generally illegal to run this fuel on the public roads because the price of off-road diesel does not include the road taxes levied on regular diesel fuel.
