I just came back from driving an 08 2500 mega cab 4X4. The dealer in Mission Valley is ordering all of their trucks with 410's for some odd reason. I thought the truck ran like a sports car, the exhaust brake works a ton better than the brake in the 07 which I sold to the kid last week. I thought the new 6 speed auto was great and my only regret is Dodge is still behind about 4 years and don't make a long bed mega--all that being said are all of the new 6. 7's blutec and what the heck does that mean??

Thats the tag given to diesels passing the 2010 emissions. Hated paying so much to have all those emission devices.

If I were in the market for a MegaMonster conversion I would certainly be concerned about having such a low GVW and also still being locked into a front end capacity of only 5200 pounds. You streach out this truck any you are throwing more load onto the front axle. The factory wheels would be overloaded for sure.

The longer frame won't really negatively affect the weight on the front axle as much as you might think. The farther out the steer axle is, the less weight transfer there is. The rear will take more weight than the front will. My Cat scale tickets with the big truck are proof of that. The shorter the truck, the easier it is to overload the front (depending on the sliding hitch placement).

Driving a tractor with a 260" wheelbase vs the previous ones with a 200 or 220"wb, it takes a LOT weight on the drives to get the steers overweight on the longer truck.

Rumors are that Dodge will introduce a 4th generation in 09, which will do away with the Mega Cab and have a true 4 door Crew Cab, which will be available with a long bed and a short bed.

On the MegaMonster you are not streaching out the front axle you are moving the load point of the rear. That throws load to the front. And I'll betcha that if DC does re-create a true 4 door it will not have a 5200# front axle. Mark it down



Place a 2000 weight up tight against the cab. Move the back axle away by 2 feet. =less load on back axle. You did not move the load point just the bearing.
