Any Snowmobilers?

Turbo'ed and Nitrous push mowers..

A buddy of mine has a Ford Powerheartstroke and has developed a problem. Its an 01 7. 3 It seems that during the period of his last two oil changes he has developed a miss in the engine. He changed oil from chevron delo to shell rottela. He changes oil every 7000 kilometres (and filter) and i was inquireing for him if this could be a possible problem.

Unconstructive.....

See what "Maddog" did to his ferd to correct it... ... ...

Sobly will chime in soon to help you.

Welcome DodgeBoyKim! Assure your friend that changing from Delo to Rotella would not cause his engine to miss. As far as what could be wrong, I have no idea.

The valve cover gaskets have wires running through them to the injectors. They go bad. Another friend had one injector itself go bad. That is the little I have experienced.

I may be wrong, but i think power stroke engines are essentially hydraulic fired engines that use engine oil(oil pressure) to open/close injectors. I was dispatched to a DT466(next size up from the 7. 3) in a dump truck with a bad miss. I asked what he did to the truck and the owner said he changed the oil and added 10w30. I rechanged the oil back to shell 15w40. The miss was gone. I think it had to do with the viscosity of the two oils. 15w40 is thinker and made it fire correctly.

If the oil is not the problem, my next check would be the the valve cover gaskets which have electrical connections. Good luck!!

Dang it! Wrong again... .

Maybe it is the oil change... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . I'll shut up now about things I don't know.

Don't feel too bad. I started to post the same as you in in #3, but somthing came up and I didn't.

This is what is so great about TDR, so much good info.

I work with a guy that has a 7. 3 and he said being low on oil once caused him a miss and longer start times. May be something with the oil.

Dan

I think there was a Ford TSb or notice to the effect that foaming
oil could cause a miss fire. also if I remember it included Overfill as a cause.

One thing that actually good about the Strokers... . you can't blow the motor from oil starvation, they shut off first... . ;)

Remind me again why someone would buy a FERD.

This is Dodge country, on a quite night you can hear a FERD rusting. Chevies are a myth. Shure everyones heard of one but nobody has ever got one on video.

re ford boy

Ford boy is a childhood friend that i've known for about forty years . we've always had a little bit of ribbing back and forth since we started driveing at 16. he's always driven fords and i've always driven dodges. thats just the way it is. as our kids our grown up now, i have 2 boys that both drive dodges and fordboy has 3 girls, 2 that drive fords. some things just do not change and really do"nt have to.

The "powerstroke" 7. 3's have electronic drivers on each injector that controll the oil part. EHUI, or electronic hydraulic unit injector, its called.

The electric part has a habbit of failure. An old college buddy works in a ferd truck shop, he says usualy #8 inj, if for no other reason than its in back under the HVAC stuff and is the hardest to get to.

Those engines are getting old enough, its rare to hear one pull in the lot that doesen't have the "7. 3 lope" to some degree... .

Oh, if he gets into things under the valve covers, he needs to go ahead and change glow plugs while he's in there.
