OK, I have my new H2 wheels on... Any other ideas on the center caps, besides cutting the stockers to fit? Is anyone using something different? The H2's caps won't work on the rear wheels...

I cut a hole in the rears. (the axle sticks out about flush with the cap)

I just bought these a couple of weeks ago for 375. They were local and the guy even delivered them to me! As for the balace issue goes, the balancing machine uses the center hole to set up with and if it's not true, your balance won't be good either. Other words, if the wheel doesn't center up on the balance machine and has runout... how good will the balance be? The wheel has to run true to get a good balance.

Depending on the depth of the wheel hub and how much is being taken off, its possible that the cone used to balance the wheel will not even touch the portion of the wheel hub that is removed.

I used my stock Dodge caps. Just double nut the lug using the old Hummer nuts. They catch for about one turn since they aren't the right thread. Don't tighten past hand tight, then bend the tabs in on the dodge cap a tad with some pliers. Since each nut is held by the tab, they can't come loose. Works and looks great with no cutting the cap.

When you machine the wheels to the same as the Dodge wheels, everything works. I also modified my Dodge caps to work with the Hummer wheels and stock Dodge lug nuts.

With these rims, the caps work fine, I got 5 of them off of ebay about 6 months ago.

What are the Hummer nuts like? Could one use an additional set of Dodge nuts and put over the other nuts?

Thanks,

Blake

I didn't try a second Dodge nut, but you can try it even now. Just unbolt one and try it on a stud with a nut on it already. There isn't much thread hanging out with the orginal nut on; it's a thick nut. The hummer nut is much smaller in diameter and it fits inside the stock nut and just catches a turn or two on the treads. Pretty neat that you don't need to tighten the second nut since the cap clamps to all 8 nuts and keeps them from turning anyway. I'll try and put a photo up.

My Hummer wheels went on a 97 and the Hummer nuts were metric and the Dodge are not plus there's no way the Hummer caps would fit over the Dodge hubs. Besides, the Dodge caps look better imo :-laf

Like I said, the hummer nuts are only put on hand tight, due to the potential of a cross thread. I only used them to space out far enough for the origonal dodge caps to mount without cutting them. The sprung fingers on the dodge caps keep the hummer nuts from backing out and falling off.

In my opinion, the stock, uncut dodge cap looks much better than a trimmed dodge cap.

I took my H2 rims to a local machine shop, had them cut to the diam yo hoot's instructions indicated, PERFECT FIT. It cost me less than $100. 00, they were done in a couple of days. I could have done them myself with a hole saw but the cost to buy the saw and the time to mess with them, etc seemed to me to be pretty equal.

CD

The older style center caps are made different than the newer ones and I just modified my stockers to fit and it looks just like they did before except they don't stick out as far..... and having your own small machine shop makes things easier. :)

H2 machine shop in San Diego?

I recently acquired some Hummer rims and have been quoted $200/set for machining. Anybody used another machine shop besides Ralls Precision in Santee?

WOW!! I got mine done for $80 out the door w/ them being CNC Machined. If you are ever up in Norcal. I can point you in the right direction. :-laf
