OK, I figured I'd forget, so I went out in the cold and dark to get a rough picture. Doesn't show the actual mount real well, but it's a standard L bracket made for truck mirrors. So here you go:

You know that you TX/RX off of your right front with that setup right?

In answer to where coax was run with magmount,

I ran it down the rear driver door weatherstrip and under the molding, and under the drivers seat to the radio.

BabyFat has a NICE setup if you've got the tow mirrors. The pic show's where their located but doesn't give justice to the way their held on.

I was looking into this a while back myself, and I decided that-when I was ready, I was going to use a mount I found in a pro radio shop not far from me. It's a mount similar to babyfat's but it is a tab that goes under 2 fender bolts and shoots out from the hood gap. There's a low profile 90* base that sends the cable in along the tab. Real clean. I can try to find the link to the radio shop if anyone is interested.

yes!!!please post the link if you can..... i couldn't get a close look at BabyFat's setup on the tow mirrors... . which i have..... couldn't make out the mount!!... . tom

magnet mount cable route

I route the magnet mount (roof) through the sliding rear window, still able to close and lock the window.

I stopped at a CB shop sometime ago to inquire how they route perm. cable installs with minimal drilling.

He informed me there is a rubber plug in the footwell drivers-side underneath the floor mat and carpet, middle of the floor space.

I haven't personally checked but, if in fact it exists where he described, I will use the rubber plug to route the cable, once i go with a perm. CB antenna setup.

It will require soldering the antenna cable end after routing through the hole to minimize the hole size.

I like the idea and will probably go with the front stake location, several mounts, ideas to choose from.

I am not affiliated with the CB shop, across from Flying J (last exit in GA soutbound)

any advice?

I haven't the slightest idea. So your saying it's only recieving/transmitting off of the front right corner. So I'm not getting much to the rear or drivers side anywhere? I don't know much about that stuff so any help would be great. I'm sure center of cab roof is best but that isn't an option.

Actually last night I moved it up onto the pipe from my transfer pump to the filter to gain a little more height. My SWR's were still high with it all the way down so I figured I'd try moving it around a little before I decided whether to cut it a little shorter or try something else all together.

Then you need to find the 3rd ... ... ... ... or 4th best option.

Look, some guys are happy with 2 miles on mobile ... ... ... ... ..... I like 20 miles ... ... ... ... and most of that comes from a well grounded "ground plane" antenna!

A junk radio will talk better on a good antenna, than a good radio on a junk antenna!!!

As far as grounding, we're talking about the mount, correct? I know about the ground plane as far as the larger, flatter, metal surface the better. Is the aluminum mount mounted on the metal pipe on my transfer pump in the tank a relatively suitable location? It puts the coil at roof level, but the bottom 12 inches still below the roof line.

It's much easier on my work truck, just mount it on the top of the mirrors, tune it, and forget about it.

I have solved my antenna mount by contacting Firestick and they referred me to WestCoastMall.net. There I found this mount by Accessories Unlimited for 2004 and up Dodge Pickups. It works great, SWR is nearly flat, solved my problems.
