Removing cat on 2007 5.9

I have a 2007 3500 4x4 SRW 5. 9 and i am looking for some opinions on removing the cat. Is it a good idea or bad idea? Has anyone done it on an 06 or 07 and did it make a difference. I've talk to some Cummins guys and they say do it, it will help, but I'm still unsure.

My buddy has a '05 and he cut the cat and resonator off. He put a bullydog muffler on it. It sounded alright until the packing blew out. Now it's basically straight pipe sound. I have the muffler delete on mine... sounds great.

My '06 has the muffler delete, cat still in place. Judging by the sound, the cat doesn't restrict it much:-laf It rips pretty good under WOT. I don't think the improvement, if it exists, is worth the potential hassle of not having it on there in the case of selling the truck or some sort of inspection.

Removing the muffler on my truck made it 20% louder then stock. Then i removed the cat, its at least 50% louder then stock. I like the way it sounds, but would be interesting to see what it would sound like with just the muffler and no cat. In my opinion removing the cat effected sound more then removing the muffler. Everyones ears are tuned a little different, but NOTHING beats a blip of the throttle and scaring the crap out of some poor non-suspecting person in a parking lot

I have to agree with this statement and also the fact that the removing the cat dropped egts a lot more them removing the muffler. FYI, with just the cat on it sounded too much like a raspy ricer. I've been running mine str8 for the 3 years I owned it. No complaints.

a lot of folks will argue that the cat isn't any restriction ...



my opinion is that cat can become obstructed ... i'm just doing a little preventative maintenance

Bob4x4, a Dodge tech stated that the cat is good for only a 3-4 hp loss. Why bother? My buddy hates his 5" Magnaflow turboback and is ready to replace it with a 4" aluminized which will re-accomodate his cat and use a low restriction muffler. It drones so bad it's pitiful and he has a reg. cab where much of the muffler is rearward of him. How's ULSD going to plug anything up?

I am fully strait piped and i love it. As far as performance goes you really can't see alot of difference, maybe if you had a lot of mods done maybe. I'm sure my egts dropped a little but i don't have any numbers for ya. As far as the sound goes, it's loud under a hard acceleration, and yes you can scare an unsuspecting stranger. The sound does not sound like a 24 valve or 12 valve truck, its a different sound so.

Leave it on. I like the sound when playing, but towing it sucks. Too much drone. I'm actually think of having a shop put it back on for me.
