Well my lamp out light on the dash is intermittently turning on and off, along with the ridiculous chime that sounds everytime it turns on or off. All lights seem to work fine. Sometimes it seems as if the left blinker is a trigger other times it seems like a bump in the road is a trigger, though neither condition can be repeated with any regularity. I cleaned up and put di-electric grease on the left side connectors both front and back, no change.

I am thinking perhaps a flakey relay, but I dunno. Any of you guys have suggestions??

I have seen the plastic ends on the light bulbs (taillights) themselves get hot then somewhat melt causing a poor connection between the light bar and the bulb itself. Get a set of bulbs with either metal or glass ends.

Lamp out

I too, was swamped with this problem, as the above stated, and I'd

recommend that you pull the turn signal bulbs first on both sides

and look for the appearance of the melted plastic and also

note how the little wire on the bulb has cut into the molten plastic.

You can either replace that bulb or swap it with one of the others.

Look in your operator's manual and see which is the turn signal, I think

it is 2nd from the top, but make sure. While you're at it, you may as

well close the prongs somewhat for that location on the power strip. That will

help keep from burning the plastic portion of the bulb. I think

arching between the bulb and contacts on the power strip causes

the plastic to melt and not make good contact. I eventually

had to replace that powerstrip. ($18. 75)

My truck is an '03, I don't know if there is a difference in this area.

Changed both side socket strips on mine and it fixed the problem for good. Save yourself the agravation and and buy a set.

Thanks for the input gents! I have a few things to add. I FINALLY noticed that my plate lamps were both out. So I replaced them both and one wouldn't work. Both bulb sockets showed some signs of heat. As Im looking around at the wire looms I noticed the remains of a 4-way trailer connector hanging from a pig tail just in front of the rear bumper about 6in from the 7-way connector mounted in the bumper.

Okay, so I hacked the 4-way out and taped up all four wires, of these four wires two were burned right off the 4-way (I assume the ground and hot). After this both plate lights worked fine. However now I had a constant lamp out light in the cab and the top bulb on the right was out, so I pulled the bulb strip out and the bulb was fine it worked in the other two spots. Put em all back together (frustrated by now) and they all worked! But a constant light in the cab.

I imagine a couple new bulb strips are in order, but what the hell happened to that 4-way? I must have barked a wire at one time or another. Again thanks for the help guys.

I guess it's just me, but since '03, I've just bent the contacts on he bulb base to last longer ... ... ... ... . they still act up every 75,000 miles or so :-{}

I had the same problem and that was the only fix. It was quite annoying having the chime go off and there be no light. Then the light and chime would come on. Stop check all the lights and they be fine. Ive been told by a dealer that the strips where like that on alot of vehicles around 03.

did you purchase the socket strips online?
if so, where?
I'm now getting the same problem and want to fix it permanently
thanks
