Hi Gps People :::need Some Help???? What Gps Units Will Work In Our Trucks. . I Have A 2003 ??? What Brand Do You Like??? Why???? What All Can You Do With Your Gps ???? Where's The Best Place To Mount It ???? Where's The Best Place To Purchase The Brand That You Like???? North Central Kansas Radar Doctor

I have been trying to decide for a while now. This week the Garmin NUVI 350 is on sale for $299 at a number of places. Going to get one tonight.

Anything Garmin makes is good. I've used many of their marine products in the past and have found them to be more logical and easier to use than others. I have a Garmin for my truck and I wish I would have done it long ago. I just use the included windshield mount and have it tucked up and under the rear view mirror. I can also switch modes for walking or riding a bike etc. Actually a nice feature. Also has some Euro language guides and metric conversions. Thumbs up.

Gps In A 03 Ram

Hey Does Anyone Have Some Pictures Of Mounts In The Truck?? Also No One Listed The Ways Or Uses Of The Gps Units??? Surely They Do More Than Guide You To Geno's Haha Doc

Well, here's mine. It's the Navus, from the Mopar accessory catalogue, and is made by Garmin specifically for Chrysler. For some reason, I've never seen anyone else on here comment on them, so they must not be very popular.

They have a replaceable memory card that can be easily updated. It has touch screen control to make it alot easier to enter addresses, etc. I have been very impressed with it. You can get a remote control for it as well.

Since it is mounted to the vehicle, it displays a vast amount of information pertaining to tips, etc. , including maximum speed, average speed while moving, total average speed, stopped time, traveling time, and all kinds of stuff. It talks to you if you want it to.

It even has a trace function that will recall the last 40 hours or so of driving. ( For instance, if you let someone borrow your vehicle or let your kid take it out, you could see everywhere they drove, everywhere they stopped, how fast they went, max speed, etc. )

It even has very small roads on it, some of which I would more consider 4-wheeler trails. The follow is one of the roads included on its maps... and this was 15 miles from the nearest paved road!

Installation is very simple. One connector that plugs into your radio harness, and that's all!

Here's some generic pictures of the unit, not from my truck though.

I have a different set up for my GPS, that saved a ton of money.

I use a Magellan NAV 5200dx marine GPS. These are discontinued and can be bought on Ebay for less than $100. I feed the NEMA output signal into my IBM Thinkpad running Microsoft Streets and Trips. When I dont want the Thinkpad running, the GPS had a large almost 5" x 5" diaplay with all Nav functions. With the Thinkpad running, I am centered on a moving map. I can zoom in, zoom out, calculate miles for a side trip, in other words, use all the functions of Streets and Trips plus have full GPS tracking. Any PC Laptop will run Streets and Trips. I have little invested and a top notch system. The Magellan NAV 5200dx are so cheap now days, I have one in each of my Power Wagons and M37 along with my CTD Ram. I just swap the Thinkpad to the truck I am using.

Actually, almost any quality GPS has NEMA output that can feed a computer.

I have a garmin street pilot (think that number is 550C) but not totally positive. its one of the ones that sticks to the windsheild with a suction cup. I routed the wire under the dash trim so it looks clean. Works great, has voice prompts and is upgradable. Got it on sale for 199 at cabelas.

Hope this helps

The unit is mounted with 3 or 4 screws into the dash. I opted to drill all the way through the dash and use some fine machine screws for a little extra security.

My truck is a 2006. This unit actually came in an '06 Jeep Cherokee, and the owner took it out for some reason. I picked it up on ebay for about $300 including the 2GB nationwide card. I did have to paint it though to match.

Garmin nuvi 350

Well only had the Garmin nuvi 350 for a day, but I am impressed so far. At $299 it seems like a very good unit at a reasonable price. Now I just need time and money to take a trip and really work it out. ;)

Do You Have It Mounted Yet? If So Where? Do You Use It Else Where Other Than Your Truck? I Drive A 03 4x2 , Has 35k Miles, Any Body Got Any More Pictures?? Tks Radar Doctor

I just got the Garmin Nuvi 760 for Christmas. It's pretty awesome but has a couple of small annoyances like most of them do.

MegaGPS.com has them for them cheapest that I could find. My fiancee actually ordered me the 750 but they sent the 760 by mistake. (has bluetooth)
