Please give me some ideas of where to mount the Amsoil bypass on a 2004 CTD. Pictures would be great. I have searched some of the posts but nothing yet. Thanks in advance

Jeff I will take some pics tomorrow if I can get in there with a camera. Under the passenger side battery I fabbed a small bracket and welded to the frame. Then I bolted the filter hosing to it and ran the oil lines from there. Both lines were 42" long and we pulled the valve cover and tapped in front center down low. The oil cap was a bust literally as I had to purchase a new one as we broke the old one trying to get amsoil's fitting to work. For supply oil I just plumbed into the top of the stock oil filter housing and removed the 1/8" plug.

Here are some pictures of the BMK-11 mounted to the body support on passenger side. Very easy, just drill the holes and install.

BMK-11 Install

I installed my BMK-11 with a bracket made by TDR member CPFF (Cummins Powered Fast Ford). I had to use the "short" by-pass filter to get enough clearance over the exhaust manifold to change the filter. I have over 30,000 miles of trouble free operation.

On the firewall

I did mine on the firewall. Had to use some rubber mounts to dampen the noise the oil pump makes. They can be had from gangers. Look for a thread or two of mine on this subject. I don't have any pictures, but there is a install pic on amsoil.com's site that I copied and added the rubber mounts to.

I've been told by amsoil tech that the motor mount idea isn't so good cuz of the constant vibrations.

My second choice would of been under the battery like amsoilman. However I felt it was a little to exposed to road rocks and what not. Cold winter chill at 70mph and all that.

There is no noise from the oil pump if the filter is mounted on the engine; kind of like the OEM oil filter, mounted on the engine... ... ... .

Vibration.

What vibration?

See above.

Search on "oil bypass", there are many threads.

This thread contains a picture of how I mounted mine.

Ditto me. CPFF is my Amsoil dealer. Lives a couple of towns away. He's a machinist who works out of his home and builds the things there. Builds a great product. PM me and I'll get you his name and number. He and his wife know all there is to know about this stuff. Love his bracket on my 01. Goes right around the pass side battery.

I used an angle iron piece and hung it off the firewall lip right next the the passenger battery. Its not over the exhaust so it wont heat up any. Its cheap, easy to install. Had 3 3/8s bolts holding it on. Never had a problem with it.

everyone using the over the exhaust manifold have any problems with engine temps? Is anyone running a oil temp gauge? I would be worried at dumping hot oil back in the motor on extended travel trips.

I wouldn't think there would be much heat transfered to the filters unless the truck was not moving. With the truck in motion, there should be enough airflow around the filter elements.

Just my thoughts!

Wayne, Your right, I am using the "tallboy" bypass filter , see in the pic I posted #8 I would of expected to see paint bubbled on the bottom of the filter but there wasn't. Plus remember there is a heat shield there also

No heat problems because of the exhaust manifold. When I change my oil the by-pass filter does not seem to be any hotter than the OEM full-flow oil filter. I let my Cummins cool off for about 10 minutes before removing the filters, really no temperature difference.

I drive in a lot of stop-and-go traffic in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex; everything seems OK. Ideling might be a problem, but of course extended idle may void the warranty... ... ... ... ... (hehe).

I was concerned about the heat at first and after running it for a while (5,000 miles) I checked the return flow to the top of the valve cover to see if it had changed at all; that is the heat somehow effected the filter media. It looked the same. As mentioned above, there is not any discoloration of the paint on the by-pass filter.

So, I just keep movin' on.
