I have a 07 cab chasse auto w/ AFE cold air kit on it from day one. every 2500 mls. check engine light comes on. Dealer says it's map air sensor the hole in the tube is to large and is letting to much air in causing the error code. My power is good i have pulled over 20k with after the first 500 miles it through the WVa mountains never a regen or a hick up current 8500 all towing heavy loads . Fuel mileage seems to be in the rise and good power.

Also have 98 24Valve 2500 and a 06 mega cab with the same kits not one problem.

I finally convinced the dealer to replace the sensor and reprogram the truck yesterday. their response was ok if that doesn't cure it take it to a after market diesel repair shop and have them work on it. Whos is going to pay the bill? What about warranty?

Do you mean the Mass Air Flow sensor, MAF, or the Manifold Air Pressure, MAP?

I had a friend who put a smaller intake tube on his GM and found that the MAF sensor thought that it was getting more air, (Velocity increased through the tube as it restricted the air flow), and the computer fuelled the heck out of it thinking it was getting more air than it was. If you have a larger intake tube you may be causing the computer to give you less fuel to compensate for the lack of air,( it thinks), and at some point it probably throws a code. Did you find out what the code was?

You would not have had an issue with your 98 or 06 because they did not take MAF information to determine fueling. The new trucks all use MAF and other sensor information to determine how much fuel to give the truck.

I have had my afe stage 2 w/pg7 filter on for about 4500 miles without any probs at all(knocking on wood). I did make my own gasket instead of using that foam rectangular piece that came with it.

depending on the afe kit (either the xp or cx kit) the breather tube literally just gets "shoved" into a rubber grommet in the torque tube portion of the intake. on the one's we have done here, the fit seemed very tight, but if that hole was somewhat too large, it could very easily cause a leak issue. i wish afe would put a bung off of the tube, and then clamp the tube onto this bung.

regarding the warranty... being you are having an issue, if they can prove that the intake is causing the cel, because of a leak, then you must take this issue up w/ afe or the company that installed it (if it wasn't yourself) if it is merely an installation issue. but it sounds like if this is causing the issue, it is a problem w/ the manufacture of the intake itself.

but it sounds like the dealer is being pretty good about replacing the sensor to try that first... many dealers are a bit too quick on the draw to blame ANYTHING aftermarket. i hope this helps.

DieselLady made some good points... solution seems easy, if you don't like the light coming on then put the stock setup back on. The warranty does not cover the airbox mod as the intake setup is a emissions related item. As far as paying the bill (the way the truck is currently set up), that's in your hands.
