I was heading down the freeway this morning and noticed the mileage on the vehicle information center was reading 13 and less mpg's even after a reset of the mpg's. I kept that up for at least 15 miles and on the way home on the same freeway I reset the mpg's and the mileage climbed to over 20 and almost 21. Was this a regeneration or what and if so why did it take so long?

Also is their some indication other than low mpg's that a regen is occuring?

My truck has the G30 recall done with the AV flash?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks

Not sure I could confirm that but I would have to think that it probably was. I also have the G30 with the AV flash and could not tell when mine went into regen until I got the Juice with Attitude. It lets you know when it is in regen and let me say that it regens a lot and usually for around 7 to 10 minutes. I would have to say that it regens probably 25-30% of the time when driving in city traffic and maybe 10% on highway driving. Less if you are towing as the egts stay up and it considers this as a passive regen. I DID however notice that since I vented my PCV to the outside instead of having it dump oil fumes pre turbo, I can smell a strong oil odor every time it goes into regen. I have to assume it is getting fuel into the crankcase too during regen as the smell is not there any other time. Total assumtion on my part!!!!

Don't want to take over the thread, but how did you vent your CCV to the outside? What differences did you notice, other than the smell?

Thanks

It's pretty easy. Just disconnect where it attaches to the intake right before the turbo and plug the hole. I think I used a male PVC plug and it fit great. Then find a hose that will fit the other end and run it down to vent out below the truck. If you get some blow bye when the engine gets older you can get an old pill bottle and attach it to the end of the hose so it doesnt' drip oil onto the ground. Make sure to put a few holes at the top of the bottle for venting. This has not been an issue though and I don't expect it to be until I hit over 80k miles on the truck. While you are at it, talk a look at your turbo. It will be covered with oil and very black. This is because it is drawing in the oil mist from the pcv and coats the entire intake system including the intercooler. I believe this contributes to a lack of cooling too and makes the whole system less efficient. Just my opinion.
If you have ever looked at the boost tubes on a Ford or Duramax you will see that all the connections at the boots leak oil and the DM intercooler will get so full of oil it drips on the pavement at the bottom of the inercooler where the tubes connect. Crysler told me on my Jeep that it is NORMAL.

Do you have any check engine light after disconnecting the ccv into the turbo? I didn't like sucking in oil that settled and leaked from the intercooler on my 04 Jetta TDI. I disconnected it and had the CEL come on. If no CEL comes on, I'll disconnect mine on my 08. Thanks,

Garry

No CEL on the Dodges. I did the same on my Jeep and no CEL. Have at it. I think it is the only thing left that is easy to get around. Just make sure that you plug the hole in the intake with something secure that won't get sucked into the turbo. !!! :)
