Chevy and Detroit Diesel.

Since this is the season for dreams, what would be YOUR favorite Cummins conversion?

Mine would be a 3rd generation diesel into either a '91 or so 5-window Chevy pickup or perhaps a Suburban of the same vintage - probably primarily setting the Chevy body onto the later Dodge chassis and running gear.

I've done an engine transplant into the pickup version, a 327 Chevy SB into a '51 truck, and really liked the results - and the use of the 3rd generation platform sure would deliver the best of results - a powerful but quiet powerhouse sleeper capable of MPG as good or better than the original setup.

That's mine - what's yours? :D

I am living the dream.

A engine easy to work on (12V) and my favorite chevy body style (67-72). I suppose if santa dropped it off though I would not refuse a a new HO 5. 9 though. He had better install it too. :-laf

I have a 96 Chevy Tahoe 2 door & 2 wheel drive that my stepson uses. In New England this is kind of useless and It has no real resale value because it has over 170k on the original 350 motor.

I always thought about pulling the interior, putting a cage in it, get a really nice rear axle and finally drop a cummins in it.

I thought it could be a cool Drag Truck.

I can dream can't I???

My Old truck a 85 crewcab with 93 cummins motor n trans but it was rare due to it was a Longbed we dont like the shortbeds around here no room to haul stuff :) and if I have my way and can sweet talk the better half into it I will build another beast like my old truck

Gary,

I saw an early 80's (I think) Chevy, we call it a Quad Cab today in Dodgeism, in a long bed version, square corners, flat hood, 4X4, nice condition. I bet there was plenty of room under that hood for what ever you wanted to bust your knuckles on.

That 4 door cab, long bed would be an eye attracting sonofagun!

Merry Christmas!

What especially draws me to the early '50's chevy pickups, is that cavernous engine bay and high hood - SB Chevy V8's are a snap - and a Jimmy blown Hemi was no stretch! And since that engine bay was set for an inline 6, the Cummins shouldn't be much of a stretch as far as length is concerned...

I saw a very neat job one guy did on one - he grafted a rear section of the cab from one truck onto another, and made either a 4-door or quad-cab, I don't remember which - but it was a professional quality job, and really looked great! :D

The 40's style trucks are my favories to look at also but i would want a 46' dodge 9' bed 1 ton olive green and black with the optional 20" dubs unfortunantly i could never fit comfortably in one of those being 6'4" 250, so i will dream of a future 66' ford camper special with a cummins for a daily driver.

Late 40s early 50s Dodge Power Wagon on a 3rd gen frame. G56, 271 and powered by a P-pumped cummins. Now ya got me really thinkin on this Gary

I had the idea to put a 12v in my 57 dodge project truck. But i don,t think there is near enough room length-wise. The truck has a 315 v8 in it from the factory, and it has just enough room between the firewall and rad. I guess i will settle for a 500 inch wedge motor. Randy:-laf:-laf

Gary, I would LOVE to see the pics of a truck you built. Going by what I have seen you build or modify on the truck you have, I can only imagine how the CTD would look like it was made for the truck and vice versa. -Jason

There is a guy around the Indy area that has a old willys Pickup truck 4X4 with a 24v with a Ppump and it is set up to pull. It has a gooseneck in the bed. I would say that is my favorite conversion.

I have two - first is the grand daddy '85 crewcab 4xDually Cummins 6-speed (my next project ;)), and the other... . (which I haven't 100% decided not to do)... is a Dodge suburban (crewcab front half, Ramcharger back half) 4xDually Cummins.
