I traded in my '01 2500 for an 06' 2500 Big Horn Edition in Nov. '05. Fortunately, I got the Dodge Extended Warranty. I've had more than my share of problems. First, the TIPM failed (strange symptoms... speedometer not working, but odometer working, ECO reading . 1 MPG, door locks not working, etc. ) It was like the truck needed and exorcist. That was covered under the factory warranty. After the factory warranty expired, I have a laundry list of issues:
  • Chimes don't always sound when turning on ignition.
  • Long cranking time, white smoke, surges, stalls sometimes within 5 seconds after starting.
  • Rattling/grinding sounds coming from shifter area.
  • Key fobs don't always work; I have to use the lock/unlock button, then the fob starts working.
  • Binding in clutch pedal about 2/3 travel. Also sometimes can't get into gear and clutch is difficult to push. I have to get to the gear's "gate" and gradually let out the clutch to get into gear.
  • "moaning" sound from engine when accelerating.
  • DTE stays at 620 and doesn't change until fuel gage is at 7/8 tank.
The dealer has had a CV boot on backorder since last July and can't get the part, even after a nationwide part search. They told me there's literally 1000's on backorder. They finally called me and said they have a complete shifter assy that has the part, so they're going to change the whole shifter. I'm dropping the truck off at the dealer on 01/02 to have all the work done. Can't wait for the customer survey to come in the mail...

Zero problems in 36k miles, except for smoking my stock clutch with my Smarty set too high, which was my own fault.

So far it's the best truck I've ever owned.

30k miles on my 3500 srw 2x4, only problem is with multi-function switch (intermittent flashers on wrong side or wipers malfunctionning). The rest is flawless.

Ps Long cranking time, white smoke, surges, stalls... all sound like air in the fuel lines. Check for damaged / cracked fuel line / seals around the filter / etc from tank to engine back to tank...

Mine hasn't been to bad,

multi-function switch 54k

injectors 54k

wheel bearings 66k

and a reflash for the alternator at 40k

Just two "problems" with my 06:

Dealer flashed the ECM @ 48 miles, battery temperature code fix.

Dealer replaced front pinion seal @ 14,000 miles.

The truck has not been back since, it is running better every day.

BTW: It has 25,125 miles on it now.

All of my CTD's have been great!

This one is by far the best truck I have owned
!Oo.

Im a proud owner of a 06 2500.

Im the fussiest of most everyone i know about trucks and cars but this is by far the best truck i have owned since my 1st in 1978. 18k mi and still grinning every drive :)

Love my 06

In the dealer once for a PCM re-flash for a check engine light, some rail dust, but otherwise I'm very satisfied.

Only complaint is it is much quieter than my 99...

My 06 MC 4x4 auto has 40k on it and has been problem free. I am getting 22. 5 mpg on paper topping all the foam off each fill up. Made in Mex...

I have a 05 that has been trouble free for 50,000 miles. But my buddy hauls generators with his 06 2500 and just hit 140,000 miles. Only thing other then normal maint. has been a bad axel seal.

Yeah, these new electronic trucks can act weird. I had a wiring issue when I replace the stock radio. High beams would flash by themselves and air bag light would go off. I wired up the Walbro fuel pump fuel pump different than the "recommended" way, and had all kinda of things happen with the brake lights and blinkers. The ECM doesn't like to be confused.

22,000 miles... replaced trans cooler lines, hydro-boost hoses, 1 engine right off the auto transport, re-sealed rear axle, steering gearbox, injectors, a couple of flashes, steering shaft, lots of crappy assembly by the union pukes in St louis. All in all though I still am happier with it than if I had any other brand and I will buy another one. I'll make darn sure it's built in Mexico first though!

Check engine light came on when the truck was probably 6 or 8 months old. I checked the codes and it was the battery temperature and the intake air temp. I checked the diagnostic/status thing(whatever it's called) when you hold in the odom button and turn on the key (I think that's how it's done, I would have to check my notes) and the engine was on EXACTLY 500 hours. That seemed too coincidental so I changed the air filter, played with it for a while and it reset and the light went out and it's been great ever since.

The truck has always ran great and not had any physical problems until right now when I started having the interior light timer issue. They go off way sooner than they used to. But I have read here that resetting them by disconnecting the battery takes care of it. I hope to permanently avoid the dealer.

But the truck has always ran great, has plenty of power and gets about 21 mpg at 65mph. Just under 30,000 miles.

41000 miles

Replaced the lousy factory shocks with pro-comp units - that stopped the bunny hopping over bumps and the tail stepping out on bumpy corners

Nav Cd failed and had to be replaced - $5 CD that cost $140 - what a rip!!!

At 35,000 had to turn the front rotors to eliminate a rotor shimmy - caused when getting the brakes really hot then stopping - transfered pad material to the rotors causing the vibaration in the rotors.

Seperate from all that - best truck I have ever owned - pulls like an SOB and looks great with 2" levelling kit, 35" pro-comp tires and KMC rims. Snugtop lid
