Hey guys,

When I took delivery of my truck, I noticed the shifter shift pattern wasn't straight and was cocked towards the driver. At first I thought it was installed wrong @ the factory, than I thought maybe they rotate it so the driver can see the shift pattern easier. Now after seeing pictures and other trucks, the shift pattern is straight with the dash and I also noticed that the bend in the shifter shaft down by the boot doesn't seem to point in the same direction as other trucks I've seen. My shifter bend area points straight towards the dash and other trucks I've seen the bend points more towards the driver.

Anyways, can the shifter be installed wrong or can it only be installed one-way?? I'm going to mention it to the service guy when I go in for my next service and I want to be armed with information so he can't blow me off and say it's "normal" If the shifter can be rotated to put the bend more towards the driver, than it appears the shift pattern will be straight. From what I can tell, the bend should point towards the left top conner of the open area in the dash where the fold down cup holder would be on automatic trucks.

Thanks!

Earl

I doubt very much that the shifter shaft could be mounted incorrectly and still function. On the other hand, the shifter cap wtiht the gear pattern is known to rotate slowly around. Mine's made two laps in 44,000 miles. Many have refered to this "feature" as the oil change reminder.

No, shifter knob and shift pattern disc are both tight. I'm not able to move either part. Also as I stated, it was like this when the truck was new with less than 20 miles on it. Also that doesn't explain why the shifter bent area isn't in the same direction as other trucks. I feel the shifter was installed wrong @ factory or the shifter wasn't made correctly.

Thought someone by now has had their shifter boot pulled up or the shifter off and be able to tell me how it mounts to the transmission. From what I've seen, 06 through 08 use the same shifter set-up. I have no idea how the boot is held into the floor console or I'd just look myself.

I would tend to agree with Ken that it's just the little disc rotating in the shifter. Mine used to do it, even thought it was impossible to move it by hand. But you're right that the bend position is weird.

To remove the boot, just pry up on it with a flat blade screwdriver. It just clips in there.

And Earl, you might want to change your text color back to black. That sea green can be difficult to read.

I have the NV5600, and the pattern indicator has gone around a bunch of times. It seems to do about a lap every 10k, even though it's too tight to turn it back into place by hand. My dad has the G56, and his does the same thing.

And yes, the stick on the G56 is bent, while the NV5600 is straight.
