Those of you that have installed this filter, are you happy with it? Does it last longer than the stock paper/foam filter before you have to clean it?

I have the AFE Stage2Si and am considering the PSMBuick setup with the cool "black" hose and Amsoil drop in filter.

I've been to the AFE website and the PSMbuick website and there is no denying the results that PSM obtained (45hp and 100 ft-lbs torque) vs. the 4hp and 9 ft-lbs torque for the Stage 2Si with Proguard 7. I'm also questioning the oiled filter technology.

I like the stock intake box now because changing or checking my filter with the AFE is not that easy. You have to disconnect the tube and deal with those little tiny screws that I tend to drop, deal with the hose clamp on the filter and then carefully place back in the box without damaging the alum screen by accidently rubbing on the filter box.

I also like the cool "black" hose because it only has two leak points instead of 4.

My head is spinning from all of the options available, yet all of the limitations with everyone's product.

My question: Amsoil drop-in nano with PSMBuick and cool hose. Anybody have negative comments about this set-up?

Sorry for rambling, its late...

That's what I'm running currently. No problems with the nano or the psm intake(although you can do it much cheaper@Home Depot,I was lazy). It's as quiet as stock. One thing to consider with the PSM don't plan on rescuing anybody during a high water event. It does hang down a bit. Contact an Amsoil dealer on this site and become a preferred customer for your nano.

Hold the phone, I have to see this PSM intake. 45hp and 100 lb/ft from an intake change, come on now, are we really supposed to believe that?

They compared the PSM and cold blue hose to the AFE Stage 2 and the huge improvement came from the temp difference of the air being drawn into the engine. They also measured a reduction in EGT. They had both systems with an 80hp tuner.

So, before I spend more money to get an "improved" system, I just wanted to hear from the people that really know... TDR members.

Thanks,

Louis

I have the nano on my truck. Stock airbox with "cool redhose" and hole in the bottom of stock airbox.

It pulls enough air at 36psi (according to boost gauge) and does not move the filter minder down. So that tells me it gets enough air.

Note: I also have the CFM+.

Next time, I'm going to get the cone style filter that goes in the stock air box.

I believe you'd have more filter area than the standard flat panel.

Good luck in your decision.

Amsoil makes a cone style that fits in the stock airbox. Are you happy with your CFM+ intake horn? I'm on the fence on if I should get one. Is there any benefit you can feel or record, MPG?

I had an AFE Bladerunner manifold and I could tell a difference between that and stock. When I put the CFM+ on the truck, I could tell a difference (improvement) between it and the Bladerunner. Only performance, not mileage. I have my foot in it too much to tell if the mileage improved.

I would highly recommend this change.

Tri Valley Performance ran the CFM+, ATS and AFE and the CFM+ was the best performing on their slightly bombed truck. If you do a search on the non engine forum, you can find it.

Also, its supposed to lower the EGTs.

One thing I did notice was that my exhaust pipe is not as dark as it used to be which to me means that I'm getting more or improved airflow.

Hope this helps,

Louis

The CFM+ intake was a much better change than the cold air intake. It definately improves response, you can feel it. It also did a great job of lowering my egts. Prior to the CFM+ I had to be very careful with the egts when running the 100hp setting on my Quadzilla, even the 60hp was dicey. After the CFM+ and no other mods except a muffler delete, I can run 60 hp without even watching the egts. I went with the S&B intake, which sounds cool, didn't seem to do much for performance.

My concern on this hp claim is the test. Maybe underhood heat reaches 135, but does it get that warm in the airbox, in real life? A staitionary dyno test is a whole lot different than rolling down the road. My S&B is semi enclosed. It is open to the stock fender intake and open on the bottom. Seems to me like there is pretty positive airflow in that area behind the headlight. I would be very surprised if the actual air being ingested by the mighty Cummins ever gets to 135, unless it is 100+ outside already.

Maybe it works, right now I would have to say I really doubt the results.

I had (still have) the Nano filter, i quit using it as it plugs up rather quickly (bringing the filter minder down) and need to be cleaned often. Went back to truflo filter.

I have heard of guys going away from aftermarket air boxes and going to the nano with a hole in the bottom of their airbox. I also heard guys did not bring down their filterminder as soon with the nano. What is a truflo filter? The amsoil is a synthetic media filter.

i've pulled my filter minder down with amsoil drop in after a trip to the deserts for motocross rides but simply blowing it out fixes it.

it's reassuring to me when it plugs up... ... means it's working.

That truflow filter is foam with a tackifier (oil?). I wanted to get away from cleaning and oiling a quick blow with some air would be easier. I guess I'm getting lazier with age.

I had the nano and with in 30k it couldn't be cleaned enough to keep it from pulling down the filter minder. I drive mainly on interstates on the east coast so it shouldn't be hard on it. go with the cone shape cleanable filter that goes in the stock box

Intake Horns

I was cruising the TDR classifieds and came across some Cooler Tubz. They are intake horns made by a fellow TDR member Tworline. He has pictures of them in his photo gallery. He is thinks his 24v intakes will work on a CR. Worth checking them out. They are all stainless and look like they are well made. Check them out! I'm definitely interested.
