Stock injectors? I think the 7" must add about 50hp. That's a lot of power. There is probably room to move up if your boost and egts are still safe. More diesel!!!

yep stockers! trust me, we have more to wring out of this sucker!

What level is the Smarty on?

beta 4. 4 #9, my dayly driver software. i have a rail gauge, no loss of presure even @3500 rpm.

Stock air box and stock lift pump? Did they just clean up your injectors for you? Don't they have a "stingy" dyno as well. I guess the proper setup and some good smarty software and voila 450 cool hp.

nope, didnt touch injectors ... . yet... .

i have heard alot of people say stingy, but i do know its consistant. .

we did 5 back to back pulls to make sure things were sabalised and warmed up, and all the graphs layd nicely on top of each other. .

I could definitely use some more power. This '03 seems to pull as good as my '97 did. It has more horsepower but my '97 had as much torque. I'm going to try an intake horn, and maybe a different muffler and maybe a cool hose. i think I need 50 ft lbs or so to be where I want to be at. Maybe some economizer nozzles if I had a lot of coin to spend.

if ya got the $ to spring for a intake horn, spend the $ on a programer or a box. heck, aven something small like a quad xtz or some thing would be better bang for the buck, and get ya alot more than 50 ft/lbs.

I already have a smarty Jr and a FASS. I think I could get a intake horn for a lot less than the big name ones. Check out the tdr classifieds. Tworline is making some out of stainless steel. He is working on one for the common rail trucks. The results from the others seem pretty impressive especially at 2000 rpm. That is where I run my truck.

Try the mp8. Pressure only box

set on a low setting. Lots of guys with the smarty have great results stacking a mild pressure box. The mp8 is adjustable from 0-100% with a knob in the cab.

Gus do you use a boost elbow? I have one that I could try. If the smarty saw more boost would it give you more fuel? Maybe that would work best for me. I see 25 psi and 1100 F.

on the 4. 4 beta it suposedly has the boost/fuel maps extending much further up than 32 psi. altho on the dyno i made more power with less heat at 28 pst than i did at the previous 50 psi with the wastegate disabled. my GUESS is that it doesnt continue to fuel more as it goes up, but gust doesnt cause it to defuel, i think it just maintains the fueling.

only 28 psi, 1100 degrees! hits 32 psi on the street.

thank you DDP!

my mods in signiture

Nice, thats exactly where I was at HP/TQ with everyting stock except, afe stg1, EZ/TST. But my egt's were out of this world, Smarty is a nice program.

Put the Aftermarket turbo software on it. I run 45-ish with the stock 04. 5 turbo. you could get away with close to 40 I'm sure.

Atleast on the 04. 5's the aftermarket turbo software is limited to 40psi, so the TST's boost fooller helps get a little more grunt outa things

4. 4 is technicly a aftermarket turbo program. i had the wastgate disabled and have seen 60 psi out of the stock turbo with out defueling.

If the smarty SR and JR only fuel to within stock specs unless you have the aftermarket turbo program loaded then there is no sense in raising wastegate pressure as the smarty will probably defuel. So '03's can go to 26 psi and '04. 5 and newer can go to 30psi. These CR are a different beast. My 12v truck would cruise at 5 psi and 600 F. This '03 cruises at ~10 psi and usually <600 F. That stupid 9cm housing is definitely plugging up the exhaust.

What's the difference between the 4. 5 turbo and the '03? Would it be worth changing if I found a 4. 5 take-off for a good price (free)?

100 Proof

The main difference is the mechanical vs electronic waste gate control. So you'll have to move them parts over from the 03 to 04. 5+ turbo.

I'm not sure exactly what is different past that. . Maybe waste gate size and turbine housing is a little bigger? I don't think the compressor size is bigger.

There is some other changes besides the wastegate between the two. i'm not sure off hte top of my head. tho.

If you can manage to transplant the wastegate parts over to a FREE 04. 5+ turbo, i'd do it. . Tho wouldn't spend more then $300, I'd put that money toward a real turbo upgrade

The compressor is 2mm larger I believe (59 vs 57). You should increase mass airflow and lower egts. Spoolup should improve too. Guys just swap over their old wastegate system.
