Did they not put a lock on the tailgate? Lets put a inside release on the fuel fill too. One more feature on the stalk would be ok, I would like to push or pull once to get one wipe, not a twist! They keep getting better but they must be last with the tailgate lock.

I'm with you on the tailgate lock, especially after having one stolen, which is so easy to do.

IMO, this is just another example of the bean counters being "Penney wise and dollar stupid". All my previous Fords had them.

Thank goodness for the Cummins.

Good point!!! What an oversight!!! Doh!!!

Ford has had this for years, it is one thing I was upset about after buying my new truck, and realizing it is lacking two simple things that Ford and Chevy have had for years, locking tailgate and automatic headlights, most of my buddies haven't touched the headlight switch on thier trucks ever.

It is odd that a fully loaded ram doesn't have the auto headlights. my parents 03 van and thier 98 jeep have them but not my truck. and ya the locking tailgate would be nice.

The new 1500 (and the 2500 and 3500 I expect) have automatic headlights. There is a keyless tailgate lock (not sure if it uses the factory remote or not) available from Mopar accessories for it as well.

One answer, "Cheap".

Of course there are a whole lot of us who do not live in California and have no need to lock the truck, much less the tailgate:) It is a feature I personally would never use, nor do I need to lock the fuel door or fiddle around looking for the release when I need fuel.

These are TRUCKS, and IMO, the more basic the better. Wishing for all these conveniences just drives up the cost of already too expensive vehicles and adds complexity which means more things to break.

Wanna' keep your tail gate yours?

Simply put a worm hose clamp on the side that slips out of the body, and if you do it correctly and take your time, I will take Jullio far to long to get it off while taking a chance of getting caught.

Cost about $. 35

And BHolm, a buddy did have a tail gate stolen in Colorado (Pueblo) But it was from a Chebby.

Bholm you can just leave yours unlocked! I will check out the access catalog. I see some trucks will get the auto headlamps. That is a nice feature when you get use to it. Most these trucks are stickering 40k out the door so you expect more. I doubt the rubber floor mat st is going anywhere. What I really want fixed are the wires going to the doors that break from opening and closing. I am too embarrassed to tell anyone about that! Even with all that I still love my truck. Must be the hernia medication I am on!

Well... . Pueblo is a little on the scary side IMO, not too surprising:eek:

opjohnny, I could leave the house and the vehicles unlocked. I don't however because of the firearms located within:) Not an issue in Cali since they only let the criminals have guns there. No offense meant, just messing with you guys:-laf

I still can not figure out why no back up camera? I would have paid the extra to have it work with my nav radio.

There is a backup camera option in the '09 1500 - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/2009ramintro/pr_safety.pdf

ParkView® Rear Back-up Camera: Provides a wide-angle view of the area
immediately behind the vehicle, giving the driver greater peace of mind
before backing up. Also aids in lining up a trailer to the vehicle's trailer hitch,
when so equipped. The image automatically displays on the navigation screen
when the transmission is shifted into Reverse

you've been able to get a dodge with DRL for years... you just have to get the truck from canada.

Thanks for the great idea, I'm going to put one on in the morning. I have to park and do some business in the Oakland/Berkley area this Sat.

My sentiments exactly. I don't want more frills that create potential problems. My Dodge is a truck. If I want fancy and luxury I'll drive my Chrysler 300C.

I like to keep my fuel in the truck and enjoy the piece of mind of the locking cap but here in the midwest even under cover that key lock has gotten frozen. The locking cap is just a so so idea. A cable release or trunk type electric then I can use a new cool green fuel cap from Genos! HBarlow is right they can't keep wires from breaking going to the doors so my idea is out of the question!! When I ordered my truck I carefully choose each option because I knew the more complex the more trouble down the road. Glad the backup camera is affable.
