Truck stopped in the driveway and I had it towed to the dealer under waranty with 70k miles on it. I told the guy the lift pump was bad and he wrote down $106 to diagnos it. I told him it was a warranty item, the service writer said he would look into it. He called me to tell me it was the lift pump but is was not covered under warranty. I told him he could replace the pump under warranty, that it was covered uncer warranty and he needs to figure it out. He said he would talk to his warranty specialist again. When I called back he told me it was covered and they would do the work.
I get the feeling, if I was not an informed owner, Thanks to TDR and all you members, that I would have paid $950 for the work. I am going to call the owner and explain, this service tactic. Ask the customer to pay and if they do great. If they are informed, do it write, under warranty.
Has this happened to anyone else? Do the Dealers have the right to ask for $106 to diagnos a warranty item?
When I picked it up, there was no charge for diagnosis, and no charge for the $100 deductible. I think her realized that I busted him and wanted me out of there without a fight.
