from what i read on this and other sites it seems cummins is getting a bad reputation of being unreliable due to the 6. 7. this is sad and it is sad that cummins and dodge put out an emmision compliant engine that clearly has bugs to work out and they are being worked out on the customers time and money. i love my 04. 5 cummins but i can say with out a doubt that i will not buy another dodge/cummins till the milage goes up and the emmisions managment problems are addressed and fixed. .

I have a heavily modified early '04 and a late '07. Personally I love my 6. 7. I haven't had it very long and I only have a little over 1000 miles on it but the truck is great. Bone stock and the thing squeals the tires right off the line. My '04 wouldn't do that til my first chip. The new transmission and factory exhaust brake are totally awesome and work well together. As far as mileage goes I don't think it's that bad. My '04 was averaging about 13-14 til around 10,000 miles and then it went to 18-19. My '07 averages about 13 in town and on the freeway I get 17-21 and its not even broke in. I think the 6. 7 is great!

This is my third Cummins Dodge, and with 3,000 miles on it (about half towing) It is definitely the best RV pulling pickup I have ever driven. The power, combined with the exhaust brake is simply awesome. Now, granted in those 3,000 miles this truck hasn't had any electronics/emissions problems, I don't know if I should knock on wood or what? Loaded up with my fifth wheel last week, 17,000 lbs combined, pulled hwy 101 on the Oregon Coast and I-5 at 65, averaged 11. 5 mpg hand calculated. That's only about 1-1. 5 mpg less than my 04. 5 and about 5 mpg better than my 02 V10. I can understand some of the "bad rep" talk, because I'd be mad too if my new $30-50K truck left me stranded, or was in the shop every week, but really how many guys have had no problems? We don't know, because they aren't posting, but I bet it's a very large percent who are NOT having the problems. Just my . 02

... . i'm currently on my 6th CTD 2 '92's 1 '93,1 '96,1'01,and finally my current '08..... with only 5k on the truck i am MORE than satisfied... . PLENTY of power, and for a tight engine, decent mileage!!!

I notice a few people complain of the DPF plugging up so full it won't start. As a side note, they weren't designed to drive around town, they were made to haul something heavy. Seems to me anyway.

I'm also very pleased with my 6. 7L, I seem to average about 14MPG, towing 9000lbs. for a 7300lbs truck with 350HP, not bad. I for one have had zero troubles, just shy of 10 months old, with a bit over 30,000 miles on it. I'm very pleased. Based on the feedback I get from the Ford guys, the 6. 7L should be a bonus to the Cummins name.

Have just over 20,000 on my 6. 7 with no problems. Fuel milage is getting better as well. Until i reached 15,000 only got 13-14 driving back and forth to work, about 18 miles each way mostly on the highway. It has been getting better every day it seems now averaging almost 17 and it does some idling because of the cold weather. I check my millage every time i fuel up and it seems to consistenly get better. Not sure how it does on road trips because it always has a trailer on it when i leave town.

You need to learn how an internal combustion engine works before making statements like this. These are not purpose built trucks they are made for the general public and whatever they want to use them for. Sure they should be driven on the road from time to time, but to say they are made to haul heavy and tow only is BS.

I see some problems listed here but I think there must be an aweful lot of good running ones because I see them on the road all the time.

As far as sites for other brands, they would love to take a shot at the Cummins. The 5. 9 was so impressive for so long that the slightest problem is bound to be blown way up. Somebody else would love to own the best deisel in a light truck title. It is still Cummins out front and I think that frustrates some people.

I suppose you can continue fooling yourself but, as you can see, you are not convincing the members posting on this thread. Cummins engines are truck motors, not built or intended to be used to drive five miles to the grocery store or to work and back. You can use yours anyway you choose but if you drive it for short trips and have issues with the DPF you can primarly blame yourself.

JFranklin,

Based on what I know, from the only folks I know with a 6. 7 in the real world, I wouldn't hesitate to get one.

Why are you poking folks in the eye with a sharp stick?

What is all the :-{} about? it all amounts to BS anyway in the big scheme of things. I had a itch once, in my truck and it was DCs fault because it didn't come with a back scratcher; then neither have any of my other tucks, so I think I'll whine and moan like a little girl and get you gals all excited. All because I'm board at the keyboard and need drama in my life. :-laf

Get a CLUE! and a life :--)

Glad I didn't listen to all the negative threads and posts and bought my 3500 C&C. It has been a awesome truck and has a lot of torque to haul my bed all over the city and highway no problems with 11K so far. ;)

Wow. I had heard nothing but bad about the MPGs in the 6. 7s until I read this thread. I had always heard they run great, but suck the fuel. 20-21mpg is great for an EPA-laden truck weighing 7K+, IMO. Put some of those +3-6mpg injectors they have on ebay... ...:-laf

What's that I see in your sig? Oh yeh it's an 06 5. 9! we are talking 6. 7 here! My 05 had no problems in the milage department like this 07 does. I have not had ANY problems with the DPF just the milage! I would love to swap trucks with any one of the people that are saying they are getting over 17 in one of these 6. 7's! By the way I have owned 6 5. 9's and make my living working as a heavy equipment mechinic. What do you do?

What I do is I don't insult everyone on the thread who doesn't agree with me by telling other members that they don't understand internal combustion engines or what they wrote is "BS" because I don't like what they wrote.

Amen...

Maybe I should fill the hood of my 379 with Briggs and Strattons. Aren't they internal combustion engines?

it seems to me that a lot of forums on different sites are getting hijacked by chevy and ford owners wanting to trash a dodge . these people have always gave us crap about owning a dodge . i absolutely love my 6. 7 and you can bet your bottom dollar if ford or chevy had a chance to steal the cummins from dodge they would in a heartbeat . they are just jealous that overall cummins reliability can't be touched .
