How much boost can the cfm+ handle compared to the aluminum intakes?

On another sight, there's pictures of a cfm that blew apart when making a dyno run. Boost was running close to 60 psi, and the truck was only at 450 h. p.

This is the only one I've heard of coming apart, so it may have just been a defective part; however, I've never heard of an aluminum one blowing...

I posted this up an a similar thread on DTR in response to some hysteria thats being generated:
Let me start by saying I have no commercial affiliation with any of the intake vendors, and I am only a cheerleader for CFM+ because it made the most in my tests and happens to be the most cost effective.

I tell folks who are planning to run Water/Meth or N2O to go with the ATS. It made almost as much power, and it would take more abuse. If you are not running an adder or huge boost#'s the CFM seems to work pretty darned well.

I am wondering if the folks who have blown them up were running nitrous or water/meth. I would have to think that a 60psi or greater charge that was suddenly infused with cooling mist of one sort or another might cause the plastic to contract rapidly. The contraction with the boost could explain the explosion. Just a thought. .

Shouldn't 60 psi produce a heck of a lot more than 450 hp???? Mine does that on 40 psi and a stock turbo.

Thats why I kinda think it may have been the juice that killed it. Hopefully somebody who knows the circumstances can elaborate if there was nitrous involved.

Boy, are you guys complicating my life! After Erik@TVP's comparison I was ready to to go for a CFM+..... now I have to waffle... I HATE waffling!

Well, I know for one, nobody makes anything I can't break given the chance. I have had the CFM+ on my truck since mid summer. It has seen heat and hard running, and now even a couple -40 nights in Gunnison. Plenty of grid heater cycles, and lots of boost up to 40 psi. I even pulled it off and re-installed it, looks fine and I love how it works. Throttle response is night and day on my truck.

I have to also wonder if it wasn't a shot of nitrous that did it.

According to the other sight, there was no nitrous involved... just a small shot of water/meth.

It's hard to know what to believe, as sometimes you have to be careful to separate fact from fiction, but there's been at least 4 reports now of these intakes coming apart.

One supposedly came apart at 45 psi, and another one caused a turbo overspeed failure when it blew. Take it for what it's worth... :)

Maybe water and or meth infiltrates the composite material weakening it to a certain point and when boost is added to the mix walla catastrophic failure.

This is only my theory.

Yes, please post as soon as you can, I am anxious to see that I made a good choice, I know my truck responds well to the GDP.

Thanks in advance! Jess

Is it possible for you to post this warranty on here, including any exclusions. ?

I was really interested in this intake but have to hold off as I am in the 50-70 psi range, and cannot have it go "BOOM".

As a side request to anyone who can answer..... Who sells those spacers for when you remove the heater grids. . ??
