Pacbrake vs. Banks Brake?

I have an 06 with the G56 transmission and want to purchase an exhaust brake for my truck and have heard good things about both. What are the pros/cons of either? I will be upgrading to a larger exhaust in the future. Will this have any effect? Is the Pacbrake air activated, and the Banks vacume activated? What is advantages of air/vacume activation? I am also looking to do the Kilby On Board Air to my truck. What does Pacbrake mean by "quiet braking" I love the BRRRRR... sound when the brake enguages.
 
Their About the same NOW that Banks Has the Direct Mount, The PRXB will give you about 13% more Braking in Lower RPMs,My Preference Is Pac although We sell Both. the Pump on the vacuum operated Brakes seem to fail frequently. and May leave you stranded without the stock Belt. the Belt is not a big deal if you go with the Vacuum operated Brakes ,Just keep the OEM.
 
I have the Pacbrake PRXB on mine. Install was straight forward. Everything works as it should. I now have a source of onboard air for my air bags and you can hear it when the brake engages.

I would get the OEM brake... in fact I think that is what the Banks is... (but their 04. 5-07 is only for autos)... .



You wont get the BRRRR like a big rig. . that is a compression brake. . the 5. 9 uses an exhaust brake.

The optional one from Dodge is a Jake Brake, not Banks.



The exhaust brake doesnt give you the sound of a Jake (engine brake) like a semi-truck has. Its more of a "whooshing" type sound. Sounds cool though. Was driving a company pickup down the interstate last year on the way back from Washington and it was late. I was looking for the other guys in the big trucks and a guy in a straight piped 2nd-gen hit his with his tailpipe right by my cracked window-scared the bejeesus outta me!!
 
I have the PacBrake. It was easy to install, did it in the driveway in a few hours. I have the switch on the shifter and the clutch switch installed. I really am impressed with it's performance, does the job and then some. I use mine pretty much full time, in heavy traffic in town running empty/not towing is when I do not use it because of the absence of brake lights to tell my fellow drivers what I am going to do in my driving. I like not having to use the service brakes as much.



I chose the PacBrake for two reasons, it does have more braking power than the Jacobs or Banks AND it does not have to be belt driven. I do not have to have a stock belt just in case something happens, and IF there were a problem with the PacBrake, it would just not work and not affect my trip or travels, I could easily continue on and deal with it at my convenience.



If I were to get a new truck tomorrow, I would install the PacBrake as my first mod. That also means that if I were to purchase another Dodge, it would be my position NOT to have the 'factory brake' as part of the purchase.



I have driven with both brake types towing heavy loads over the same routes, the PacBrake is the only one of the two I would want on my truck.

its the turbo on the 6. 7 doing the braking, not an additional exhaust brake.
 
Yeah ( i have one), but look at the banks... it looks suspiciously like the Jake. I was saying it looks like Banks is selling a rebadged Jake.

Oh ok, I see what you were sayin. I thought that you meant that the optional dealer installed one was Banks'...



Banks probably looked at the Jake and figured "well, since they have such a big name, then we'll just copy it and sell as our own. "
 
What's the actual warranty on the Jake Brake? Didn't someone here in some post say it was 12K? or was that 36K? or was it also included in the extended warranty if you purchased the warranty? I can't remember?



When Dodge began installing brakes that have ECM control, they opened up the aftermarket for 'other' brakes to enter the market. As per ALL the regurgitation, they WOULD have to prove that an aftermarket brake caused whatever problem that a warranty denial involved. Now whether the product manufacturer would get behind you in your struggle with Dodge IS another matter, but truthfully, if they don't - then that is like an admission that their product COULD be flawed in their representation to you.



Get it in writing from Dodge exactally HOW the aftermarket product causes the problem, then you can go after that manufacturer and their product liability insurance company. Viscous circle, but no different than your fuel receipt to prove where you got the bad fuel, have receipt - have evidence - have responsibility?

I had a Pac Brake installed on my 2005 3500 and it works great. I regularly gross 20K plus with truck and trailer and descend 6 to 8% grades without ever using my service brakes. I am very impressed with the pac brakes low RPM braking ability compared to the Jacobs or Banks Brake. The Pac Brake has a Via Air compressor installed to operate the Brake. The compressor comes with a hose to inflate tires or other things. It is handy except that the compressor gets hot when airing up a tire and will melt the Plastic air hose when filling up a large tire, A piece of high temp hydraulic line and relocation of the plastic air connetions to the compressor remedied that problem. The only drawback to the nonfactory installed brake was having a turbo charger fail and it was replaced under warranty and the Dealer charged me to remove and install the non factory installed brake.

3/36 on the kit, and 3/100 on the brake.
