Hey Ya"ll

I have been reluctant to buy an extended warranty for my 07' 5. 9 because my 05 was stolen. I am about to go over 36,000 and was talking to my service advisor about the warranty and the best deal i could drive was about 2k plus tax for the best warranty with a $100 deductible. This is my 4th ctd since 96' and all have been autos. The only (expensive) problem I have had has been trannies and all of them have been over the 100k mile mark. I have been looking at what I can buy to beef up my transmission either now or when it breaks for the same money as the warranty and there seems to be a big price divide between 2,100ish dollars and a built transmission. I know it is worth the money especially since i have a lead foot but are all of the well known trannies about 4500+ plus install or have i missed something? I saw some stuff on one of the websites (don't want to start a brand argument so I'll refrain from giving the name) that had an entry level transmission for about 2300 plus tax, install and a core carge. I estimate that it would cost about $750 to have one installed. So that would be a $3,000 transmission right? I was told by a mechanic buddy that if i buy a valvebody and a t/c that it can nuke the rest of my factory transmission. Thanks for any and all help.

Get the transmission and related issues done with the savings of not purchasing the maxxcare. Research thoroughly the transmission issue. Make sure whatever you go with, that the installer is authorized and close by. minor issues may come up and you'll need to have the installer located nearby as well as a network of installers should anything happen out of the area. A built auto transmission is a pleasure to drive over factory slushboxes.

I have a feeling i know what company you are talking about! Go back and double check the price, I believe that is for just the transmission... you will be spending another $1500 for a torque converter! Check Goerend bros! $3200 for a good transmission, $3800 for one with a billit input shaft (both come with t\c)

Maxcare covers the whole vehicle, not just the transmission. The a/c blend door job alone is between $400-$800 and they haven't corrected the base cause to my knowledge. A window switch is probably a minimum $500 job. I bought OEM Dodge Maxcare 7/85 $50 deduct at chryslerwarrantys.com. Nice people, good price. Prices are are posted on the website, and it could be lower than posted price with periodic incentives (mine was). Caveat: Dealers will try to void the entire warranty if you've added mods.

Extended service contract.

Thanks for the website DeezelDood. Those prices are less than half of what I was quoted by my purchasing dealer. There's a Dodge tech here who purchased one for his own vehicle. My mods are minimal and I've been informed of a mod friendly dealer here as long as I don't get carried away. They don't get into specifics but say 5007+ components are covered.

well so far its been worth it for me. wheel bearings, steering work was done, soon ball joints, multifunction switch and comp reflash for alternator. plus a loner truck when its in the shop

My pleasure Bajabob. I'm told that the reason that warranties are so expensive in Cal is that the state categorizes them as insurance. As such they are not simply competitive "products" as they are in other states. Maybe a TDR member can confirm or explain this. Something is up, warranties cost a lot more here.
