Seems like this issue has been talked about for a little bit. The "Lamp Out" light and chime that goes with it. Mine continues to come on go off, come on go off much like the title of this thread. Even with the "Lamp Out" light on every bulb on the truck looks great! I have already replaced the tail lights once.



What should I be looking for? Should I replace every bulb on the truck, do I need new light sockets?



Also Can I Turn OFF the CHIME?

That just happened to me. there was a light out. i just changed them all out. never had that darn ding ding ding happen to me before. even worse just gettin off the grave yard shift half way counting sheep... . thanks to the help here they schooled me..... man i was dumb :--)

When you "did" the tail lights, did you use any dielectric grease on the contacts, that solved my problem. How's the weather back there, leaving for Shawnee bright and early Sunday morning to pick up a load of trailers monday morning.

Been having this problem for a while. Every time it started chiming, I'd check the lights and all of them were lit. It seemed to be worse whenever I'd hit a bump or drive on a bumpy road. Finally, I caught it when my driver's side rear turn signal lamp stayed out (you'd get that quick flash on the other lit lamps). When to the parts store and got a new bulb and Voila... ... absolutely nothing!



I started to play with the bulb and by moving it around (wiggling it) in the socket I could make it come on and off (and make the lamp out chime go on and off). I looked at the contacts, and they looked like they were bent out of shape. Tried to bend them back, but they wouldn't reliably hold. So, off to the dealer armed with a part number.



Long story short, I replaced the plastic lamp holder (about $20 at my dealer) and everything is fine again. According to the parts man, they replace a lot of these. He even knew the part number by memory before I could finish giving it to him. They've apparently revised these some as my part was a Rev B. and the one I got from the dealer was a Rev D. part.

As far as the weather in the OKC area it is wet and cold. No ice or snow.

No, I don't have it handy anymore. It was printed on the part and my dealer had quite a few in stock since it seems to fail a lot. I may have it in the truck. If I do, I'll post it later.

Many many past threads suggest it is the driver's side taillight assembly. I don't know if it's one bulb specifically or not. Dad greased all the connections in that corner in his '03 and the problem has been gone since.

haha, funny, I just had a light out and sure enough it was the drives side taillight. 2 bulbs in fact

Hey thanks guys. I have to agree with the drivers side. It seems to be worse with that turn signal. I will try and get that socket. But I will also use the grease on all the tail lights. This chimeing thing is driving me out of my mind.



I still would not trade my Dodge/Cummins for anything!!!

Chime from tailights

It was the turn signal bulbs in my truck, you may as well go purchase

the power strips for both sides, $18. 75 ea. at West Side Dodge, Jax. , Fl.

I did swap the bulbs around and used a screw driver to work the prongs

in the old power strip, it worked for awhile but it came back after a short

while. The plastic base on the bulb melts due to the arcing on the wire

connector of the bulb. don't use the old bulb after you purchase the

new strips, your old problem will continue.
