I have gone through two BD short shifters and both broke after about a year's usage. In each case, BD replaced the shifter, so no complaints there. However, a gear shift lasts forever, right? Not right. The second broken shift was hugely inconvenient and I am back using an OEM. FWIT, I plan to keep it that way and suggest that others might do the same.

I have had one on my truck for 3 years and no issues! but I bought it at a lot lower price than it is now, now I would not buy one for the price they want.

I've had mine on for 2 1/2 years with no issues.

Overall very happy with the performance of it.

HP

I was quite happy with the performance too. Great concept that BD had using leverage to quick-shift click-click between gears. But hey, the first shifter broke and I installed the BD replacement. Then the second one broke after about a year's use just as my wife and I were getting ready to take a 900-mile trip. We unloaded the truck and put everything in the Honda Pilot. I shudder to think what would have happened if the shifter had broke in Podunk, Kan. We only have 80,000 miles on the '03. I get almost 20 mpgs in normal driving, so that tells you I'm not hard on the truck or the transmission. No more short-shifters for me, but I'd be happy to sell somebody the second BD replacement for what the OEM shifter cost -- $50.

As you can see from my sig... . Mines busted too... Your lucky you got yours replaced! Mine broke when it was out of warrenty #@$%! At least I know now mine wasn't the only one. But still it blows either way... .

I was going to order one but I don't think the wife would find it too funny if the shifter broke while she was towing the horse trailer. Where does it break at?

Right at the very bottom. The first time it broke BD said they'd fixed the problem. Judging from the second break, I guess they didn't. I notified Geno's and they're going to discuss it at staff meeting, contact BD or something. Geno's also offered to make it good, but it's not their problem.

Its a different transmission, but Ive got one in my truck and am curious as to what broke in yours?

The shaft itself, down near the bottom. Made out of pot metal, I guess. BD said they fixed the problem after the first one broke. The second one that broke says they didn't fix it good enough.
