the most annoying thing about my truck is it shifts to 4th gear at 50mph, this lugs the motor down to like 1200 RPM's its very annoying when pulling a trailer or trying to just drive 50-55 which is typical of driving in the city. I am running the smarty. I checked about the DTT shift controller and was told it only controls 123 shifts, I know I know I can just hit the overdrive lockout button, which I do now, its annoying to have to do it and then turn it back off when I actually do need 4th gear, I don't want 4th gear until my truck is well over 60mph, is there anything that will do it

I am surprised that your rpm drops that low at 50-55, my truck is at about 1500rpm at that mph. DTT offers the smart controller (which I have). It allows you to set the speed where the 3 to 4 shift occurs, now remember it also downshifts about 2mph less than the upshift setting. I keep mine set at 50mph for the 3 to 4 shift and it hops right back into 3rd at about 48 mph.

I was told the controller would not help me because something else in the computer controls the 4th gear shift, what I was told is the controlling mainly helps with the flare shifting at 25-30mph, which isn't much of an issue for me and my style of driving

I wondered given that you have an 06. We MIGHT be talking about two different units. I know they have something out for the 06+ that is specifically for the flair shift and the 2-3-2 hunting. My controller does not help with the flair shift. Call DTT and talk to 'em, I bet the smart controller would hold 3rd for you.

Yep, call DTT. The Smart Controller would allow you to set the vehicle speed at which the trans would upshift to OD, and downshift back to 3rd. Also allowed you to force unlock of the TCC at WOT.

I guess I always liked the fact that the trans picked up OD that soon. I had a couple durapooch/allijunk trucks that would not upshift, and once they did, they jumped out of OD at the slightest provacation, drove me nuts.

The truck should make plenty of power at that rpm and the auto is pretty much immune to lugging. Put some lead in that right foot:-laf

Our rigs lock the TC at 49mph in 4th gear -- computer controlled (it is already in 4th "unlocked" before you reach 49mph). You must have some monster tires if you drop down to 1. 2k rpm. With OEM 265's and a 3. 73 rear, mine drops to 1400 (with no problem). I have a high efficiency TC and valve body upgrade making 4th gear lockup a bit less of a leap -- but to the best of my knowledge, you can not control the 4th gear lock-up at 49mph (only with the push button keeping it in 3rd). You may consider smaller diameter tires if you are going to tow (something closer to OEM).

If you are annoyed about pushing a button -- consider yourself blessed that you don't have to constantly row between 6 gears -- although, you would have FAR more control with the 6 speed manual in every aspect across the powerband. Feel free to make me smarter with any quality info you may have obtained. Thanx!

You cant control when the tc locks (except with a switch), but DTT and I think ATS offer boxes that let you control the speed at which the 3rd to OD shift happens. I KNOW the DTT box will force lockup to hold once the ecm locks up the tq in the first place.

So when I accelerate from a stop my truck WILL NOT shift into OD until 50mph, per my setting. The tc will have locked in 3rd before that shift, often it locks at the 2 to 3 shift IF I am not running Smarty. With Smarty the tc rarely locks in 3rd, unless tow-haul is active. Smarty or not OD locks up at the 3 to OD shift, or right after.

When I slow down from OD, tc locked, at 48mph the truck WILL downshift to 3rd locked. The tc stays locked until about 30mph, also per my setting. At that point the tc unlocks and the trans acts like stock, until the next time the ECM forces tc lockup.

There is 2 different boxes that DTT makes. One is the shift enhanser for the 1-2 and 2-3 hunting that the accuator trucks have which are 04. 5 and up.

The other contoller is the smart controller which allows the tranmission shift points to be adjusted as well as lock-up control for the converter. go to the website: Diesel Transmission Technology - DTT Performance Diesel Transmission and Power Accessories to read up on both.
