Just sitting in my 2005 dually when an explosion occurs... . it's the right rear side window that was in a million pieces. I thought someone shot at me! But no holes. The glass stayed in place, as long as you didn't touch it. I saw no indication of a bird, rock, or anything, however it was difficult to see if something like a BB hit it.

I taped both sides so I can travel. Deductable is only $50.

So... has anyone had an experience or explanation as to why this may have happened possible by itself. Outside temperature was about 37*F and inside truck about 60*F and hadn't been run for about 5 hours! This was 7AM and no sun yet today in Lewiston, ID.

I seem to recall hearing about this before. I think it had something to do with the type of safety glass that Dodge was (is) using on the trucks.

I had the same thing happen on my '98. Dodge covered it under warranty. Evidently the heat treat (tempering) process will sometime result in a stress riser that ultimatley results in a failure, and scares the be-jeepers outa ya. I thought I had been hit with a rock or a stray nail from a near by contrustion site. But there was no indication of an impact, just the 'bang' sound and the glass dropping to the floor.

One of my drivers had this happen to him with a windshield at 50 MPH on the highway... he stopped and got out and looked at the truck..... he didn't see a thing wrong with the glass... other than the broken glass, and looking back up the side of the hill along the highway he saw 2 boys with a gun..... My driver is a shooter, and has been all his life... . he looked and looked but found nothing that would believe it was a shot... . BB or Pellet... He assumed that a 22 would go through the window...

He reported it to the police... dialed 911 and the dispatcher said there were 10 or 12 complaints over the past 3 days... . please stay until an officer came for a report... .

He was later called and questions to verify the report he gave... they found the 2 boys... young teens who admitted shooting at cars with their pellet gun.....

We replaced the glass when he got back here... ...

I have a friend who had an eighty-something Camaro, and the whole hatchback exploded several times, even sitting still. That got old in a hurry.

i rember hearing about thouse kids in spokane valley doing that. i grew up in Post Falls. my budys 81 camero did the same thing three times... ... ... in a week... ... ... just sitting. found out it was bad glass.

Mountainman1..... your in lewiston... ..... could be the air!

I lost the driver's side of my 3 piece slider on my 06. I was heading down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere and BOOM! no window. I thought my quad hit it, but when I pushed on the quad, it didn't move, and if it did it would hit the center glass first. I figured that I got just the right vibration. Did scare the poop out of me though!

Had the right rear window disintegrate at work last August. Opened the door, stepped on the running and it collapsed in a zillion pieces. The grounds contractor had been mowing the perimeter of the parking lot that day and accepted responsibility (lots of large gravel in the grass) but I still wonder if it wasn't the high temperatures and the built in stresses that others have cited.

Yes I was in Lewiston... I really like that town but not how it smells!:-laf

The glass guy said it happens now and again. But he had no explanation why!

Tempered glass is pretty tempermental stuff haha... . I work for a local glass shop and for whatever reason sometimes it just blows up. I remember picking up a piece to take to the truck and as soon as I lifted it up and turned (no i didnt hit anything) it exploded in my face.

I have a 2006 Ram 3500 and my front passenger window cracked this morning when it started to warm up. It has tint on it so it did not explode, just a crack that is starting to spread out just like on a windshield. I took it to the dealer and pretty much said tough luck. He said this was the first one he had seen and they can't warranty glass. If anyone has heard anything different please let me know. Thanks.

I got into my truck Sunday afternnoon, about 2:00 PM, and found my drivers side window cracked about five inches. Overnight it cracked another five or six inches.

I took it to the dealership this morning and they replaced it under warranty.

Are you within the 3 year, 36k mile warranty? I am over 37k miles and I have the extended warranty but they said Dodge will not warranty it since there are no TSBs or recalls. Anyone know of a dealership in Denver where I might have better luck? I tried the Burt Dodge in Parker today. I'd rather not spend a couple hundred to fix it if someone will warranty it.

My truck is only fourteen months old with 14. 2K. The dealership initially flinched when I took the truck into them about replacing it under warranty, but then they did follow through and warranty the window when they found no rock chips or damage.
