New tire options - 35" range

With the sorry state of affairs lawsuit-wise,Dodge elected to put E rated tires on these heavy powerful vehicles. My D-rated tire failed @ 32,000 miles and moderate wear. $3300 damage in seconds. No more Bridgestones,no more underated tires. There's more to tires than load capacity. My Bridgestones were rated at 3305# ea. The load they had been subjected to was 2005# maxxed out. I'm going with Toyos again. M-55's made my old '99 safe again. Wish Toyo would release a 35" M-55 in 16" & 17" sizes. I am not affiliated with Toyo but wish I was so I could obtain them cheaper.

Do you need the extra sidewall strength for when you scrub the curbs or what? Sounds like you are saying the thicker sidewall is what is holding the weight or the truck up? Not really, the thicker sidewall is needed to contain the higher air pressure needed in a smaller tire. Lower your E rated tires to 10 PSI and let me know how that sidewall holds up.

all i'm saying is if you bought a your truck for a pavement pounder fine but some of us use them to the fullest and rely on good quality tires and equipment to endure all odds.

OK, you win I guess. I don't tow more that 5,000 and my plow is "only" 900.

check out pro comp tires. i just found and awesome deal on 4wheel online. buy three get one free. they seem to have some that have a 50,000 and 40,000 mile warranty. seem to be pretty good tires also. they offer many different ones in 35/12. 50-17. they are E-rated

Nitto Terra Grappler E rated

Nitto has a 325-70-17 E rated Terra Grappler advertised on the back of Four Wheeler mag. My Nitto dealer says they haven't been released in "E''s yet. That's another potential product.

At 189 each (mounted, balanced, stems, and tax) they were a great deal. And that was from local dealer - cheaper than anywhere online.

I've posted many times about my experience with "D" rated tires and my camper. (tailwag,flats and $3300 blowout damage. ) Unladen,lightly laden truck,I don't think it's a concern.

I am also looking for a 35" E rated tire for my rig. I plan on using the stock rims. I can tell you that the Pernelli Jones are not so good on wear. My brother has them on his 7. 3 Excursion and they are going fast. I have them on my 68 Bronco and they work great on the trail. I had one sidewall completely blow on the trail and know of a friend of my brothers that had the same set up as him that blew out on the highway going 65... not good...

has no one looked into the Pro comps yet. they seems to be an awesome tire. and just about all of them are E rated. i will be buying a set in the near future Oo.

I have 44,000 miles on my rig and have already gone through 2 sets "8-tires" of BFG 31570R17's. The first set was with no towing what so ever. The set on my rig now, set "2" are near slicks. Made a run with my son from Alaska to Washington to pick up a new 2007 Arctic Fox 25P travel trailer last summer. I went with BFG's due to the lower costs, but I need new tires again. Hey, I tried to save a few bucks, but found out the hard way, its pay me now or pay me later. By the way I did have the dreaded Death wobble happen twice. Both times was shortly after installing the first set of BFG's prior to replacing the upper & lower ball joints and installing Solid Steels adjustable track bar and steering stabilizer. The fix for me, new TRW adjustable upper ball joints to get my caster where it needs to be, also replaced lower ball joints as they were worn too. I installed Solid Steel's adjustable track bar and steering stabilizer. I have NOT had any DW since. By the way my trip from Alaska to Washington state and back, no DW... .

Sorry, for the lengthy post , but those wanting to run larger tires should be informed about the DW, as I didn't have one until just after installing tmy first set of BFG's.

I also know a lot of folks blame the BFG's for DW due to the "D" rating having a softer side wall. That's another reason for me to give the the Toyo's a go! By the way I am not trying to solicate business for Solid Steel, just reporting what their products have done for me! :-laf

Toyo's

I am running the Toyo AT's right now and made a trip out of Alaska to New Mexico pulling 10K. The front tires held up well, but I should have stopped half way and rotated the tires. The rear tires took a beating and were half gone after the trip. Front still looked new. I rotated as soon as I got here and I rotated just before I left Alaska because I had 4300 miles on the tires before I left. I now have 13K on them, but am still disappointed with the way the rears wore on the trip. The last set of Toyo's I had lasted 55K miles. These will not make it that far for sure.
