Prayer Request

If you haven't done your taxes yet think about this. A few months ago I was on a highway way out in the middle of nowhere and I picked up a guy walking down the road. I've never picked up a hitchhiker before but he didn't stick out his thumb and he wasn't wearing rags. I know you can't judge a book by its cover but it was 75 miles to civilization.

As it turned out this fellow was a transient on his way to his summer spot in the National Forest. He doesn't panhandle because for years he has worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block. He wasn't up on the currant tax codes exept for the 2 hr seminar the company gives at the start of tax season. Now I respect a guy that works and doesn't take handouts but from now on I am only going to an accounting firm that employs full time employees and I will only let a full time employee work on my return. A good accountant should keep abreast of all the years tax code changes and therefor be able to maximize the deductions. If the IRS agents can't even keep up on tax code how can a seasonal worker?

Kevin, years ago I used a Block preparer, and I had to correct his results, the Clown promised not to CHARGE for the redo. I went to a CPA, you get what you pay for. I have heard some get a bonus for under claiming deductions, an employer told me that, he had no cause to lie.

How would H+R benefit from under claiming deductions? I am not questioning that someone said this, it just doesn't make sense. Especially since a large amout of H+R income comes from 100+ % APR on their refund anticipation loans. The more the refund, the more money they would make on interest. I do agree that places lie H+R and JH are not going to be staffed with the best in the business, although to be fair, I am sure some are quite good. Do you think the tax people at Liberty have to take turns dressing up in the statue costume?

Turbo Tax is really easy. If I used a tax preparer of some kind, I'd still have to gather all the records and documetation. That's really the only hard part of using Turbo Tax, it does all the rest.

True, but does Turbo Tax send someone to the auditor if you get served? That for me is a selling point of using a tax preparer, if I got audited, I give him the paper work, and he does the dealing with the auditor. I dont want to, nor do I have the time to sit down with a clown from the IRS, plus, I would probably want to kick the crap out of them... :-laf

Unfortunately, mine are already done and as near as I can figure, with what Im paying, Im supporting a family of twenty illegals and their cousins.

Yesterday I saw the person dressed as the Statue of Liberty from Liberty Tax Service shoveling the entrance to their parking lot. LOL

When we lived in kansas my Dad was District Claims manager for a insurance company. My dad work at H & R Block part time at night (7 kids to feed and cloth)during tax season.

Five to seven years after moving to Florida he helped start a tax group at our church sponsored by the IRS. To help out people that didn't know how or could not afford someone to do it for them. (They had doctors and lawyers coming in to see if they could get more deductions. )

Doctors and lawyers would do something like that.

Actually thats now an option you can buy from turbo tax.

Not that I would. I'm way to poor to ever be audited.

Thats what my dad thought too, but he got audited this last year by the state. Due to my dad taking out a home equity loan in '06, and even though it was noted on his filing correctly, they audited him because they wanted to know where that extra money came from... . All the auditor had to do was look at the paper work filed and they would have know were it came from.

JD, when I told my employer of that Block Clown screwing up my returns he said of the holding, said there is a lot of spare change handed out by the government for information on all subjects. He worked for the government at one time, you do receive reward of outing tax cheats.

Audits or Auditions? I never worried, just be honest on returns, they work for you not the other way around so I'm told. ???

Oh, I didn't realize you meant outing tax cheats. I thought you meant they got rewards for not claiming all deductions available to their customers.

Tax time...

What a PIA for everyone and each year it doesn't get any easier. I actually have it easy this time of the year anymore but it didn't come without a price,LOL. I paid a large sum of cash to a state college so my son could be a CPA. For all that,I get to drop it all in his lap and make him work on it,LOL. Funny thing is he still grumbles about it,work that is,just like he did when he lived at home and had to cut the grass:-laf:-laf:-laf... ... Andy
