My friend, fellow RV transporter, and fellow TDR member GAmes just called a few minutes ago to tell me that Flying J is offering a nationwide sale on Valvoline Premium Blue motor oil. Gary told me it is a "buy one, get one free" sale at a reasonable price for each gallon purchased. He told me he bought ten cases so apparently there is no limit.

I'm getting ready to go to my local Flying J and buy a few cases myself.

Fellow TDR members may want to take advantage of the sale. Standard disclaimer applies.

I bought 10 cases, 40 gallons of regular old 15-40. That's what I use and prefer. 40 gallons will last me awhile.

Harvey

Closest one to me is 3+ hours away. (and no trips planned soon :{)

Driving that far to buy it on sale would probably make it more expensive than buying it at regular price.

40 gallons of Valvoline will last me a long time if I don't return to RV transporting and at this point I don't plan to.

Harvey

What national chain stores carry Valvoline Premium Blue oil?

There isn't a Flying J place within 1500 miles of me.

Does Wally World or NAPA carry Valvoline?

I have never seen the PB at FJ, obviously NOT all of the stores carry it. Do they have the Extreme flavor (SYN) too or just the 15-40? I run the 5-40 Extreme in my 01 and always look for deals, but it is rare to find.

NAPA stores either stock or special order the PB Ext 5-40 for me AND it is almost always overnight if they don't have it in stock, depends on the store whether it is stocked.

Thanks, Harvey. I got my four cases today.

Everyone who likes this oil should hurry. The sale ends March 31st, or while supplies last. This is according to the sale flyer link (above).

Loren

That's what I thought. For all those concerned about CI4 vs CJ4, last I checked the regular has been updated to CJ4, BUT the extreme is still CI4, although more money since it is SYN.

SHG

So, with only 4,800 miles on the motor, I should wait to run synthetic?

RideSlow,

Yes, I would wait.

This is mostly opinion, not fact, but I intend to wait until I get a few thousand miles of towing before I install synthetic. Actually, since I got such a good deal on the Premium Blue, I'll probably just wait until that's used up and then switch.

If you don't tow it will take a long time before your Cummins is broken in. That engine need more of a load than just the empty truck to get all the parts seated in a short time.

Don't complain about the red truck. I almost bought that color, but thought it might attract tickets.

Enjoy the new truck.

There was a oil test done awhile back Valvoline Premium Blue got the highest rating. rotella got the lowest rating. Valvoline Premium Blue has the cummins endorsement. None of the others do, Valvoline all the way for me

Although the author or authors of the recent oil analysis articles in the TDR magazine clearly knows far more than I do about the properties of diesel motor oil I wouldn't stop using Shell Rotella. I used nothing but Rotella in my two previous Rams for a total of 550k trouble free miles.

However, I value the test result and bought a several year supply of Valvoline recently due to the Flying J sale.

The Flying J by me has been out of the Valvoline for 2 weeks and say that the warehouse is plum empty so I don't expect to see any more before the sale ends.
