Wow, this thread really turned into a doggy soap:-laf Putting the macho tendencies back in the shoe box and getting back to the original thread, is the concern theft through siphoning out of the truck's tank? My OEM filler hose has a check valve at the bottom that doesn't let that happen, I would suspect this is true for many if not all of our trucks. I used to ride around with a locking fuel cap until I realized that I was just locking myself out.

Forget siphoning. The going thing now is tank drilling. Your fuel tank is plastic. A cordless drill and something to drain it into is all you need to steal your fuel now. A check valve or a locking cap ain't going to help against that.

Wow, that's a new one on me, thanks for the explanation. I guess it takes a little while for the new crime trends to make it up here. That's really unfortunate, I'd be worried more about it as the vandalism to the truck than the $120 of diesel. Might be time then to make myself a Stainless Steel tank, maybe make it with some room for a US Gear splitter too.

Well today I noticed that my car had used about a half of tank of gas when I had not driven it. I went to check the truck that had a full tank of diesel and it was down.



It seems like they are just takeing a little bit at a time so I would not notice.



I just got back from getting locking caps and after reading this thread I'm in the prossess of hooking up a camera and some sort of anti theft items, I do have a electric fence box and wondering if I could use it.



I do hope they were only after gas and put the diesel in there gasser.

NMcCoy, how were they getting at it, any holes in your tank? Also, I know my truck's fuel gauge is a little wonky now and then, perhaps is yours the same in your truck? I know when I first noticed the gauge was wonky a few years back I thought someone ran off with some fuel before I found out that it had a check valve in the filler, but the next time I drove it, it said I gained that 1/8 tank back, once in a while I'll jump in and it will be 1/8-1/4 tank off from where it was when I parked it, but it seems to go back to normal once I drive it for a few minutes.

I just filled up my truck to the top a few days ago and have not drove it. I am going to refill and see how much is missing.



I had never had this problem with missing gas/fuel before, I have somewhat noticed that my dodge intrepid seemed to useing more gas than it use to. I only use it for short trips like to the store and don't drive my truck unless its needed to pull a trailor or haul something. I have been useing my bikes unless I need to carry something.



They were each filled up to the top and only used the intrepid a few times and not used the truck.



Come to think about it each time I drive it the gauge was lower than before, not alot but just a little each time.



I will soon find out as I just hooked up a vidio sys. and working on other things.



It seems like there after gas but also got some diesel.



time will tell.

Thank goodness we don't have problems like tank drilling in middle america... . yet. I don't know how you would stop it.

I have found out the hard way that it is very hard to stop a determined thief. I do use locking fuel caps to keep the honest people honest, and cameras to catch the criminals on film to provide evidence.

I don't know which one is scarier. The lab or the toddler. Either one doing their worst would just drown you in drool. Seriously, I haven't had any fuel theft problems, but I park all my vehicles in a garage.
