I only use it when I half to. We drive a colbalt as much as we can. This is going to kill the us. How much can we stand. I am retired so I can stay home. I got cabin feaver now. I have a bike somewhere in the garage?

HEH!

I ssume you are referring to fuel costs...

You should try towing a 5th wheel over serious distance - then filling the OEM and in-bed tank - about 100 gallons... ;):eek:

Even at 2. 25 a gallon, I never got great mileage in my 7,800lb empty truck. A rice burner will always get nearly twice the mileage I get, but will it tow 15,000 lbs up a 6% grade that is 30 miles long?!

I hear you on that... I just sold one of my trucks and the other hasnt even started in about a month. It is just too expensive to drive it. I used the money from the truck I sold to buy a little diesel Jetta. It gets 50 mpg and you got to hear the turbo spool on that thing:-laf I down sized but can still drive a diesel everyday at a bargain compared to the truck. Sucks but had to do it.

make more money...

I dont waste time thinking about debt, I think about making more money. opportunities are everywhere

Thanks for a great answer. We live in the United States of America, the land of freedom and opportunity. I realize that some are retired and may be too old to work or even disabled and I don't mean to slam them but for most of us there are opportunities to earn more.

I am going to gear up and make bio in my garage. My buddy and fellow CTD owner has just expanded his restaurant to include two big fryers. He is excited to use the oil twice, I am excited about the chemistry experiment, we are both excited about running $1/gallon fuel.

I am not a big greenie but his just makes sense, nothing like a little american inginuity to solve the problem:)

Hey, look at it this way:

Your resale value will remain high due to the lower mileage!

All kidding aside, it sucks to fill up for $130 a pop. I did it Wednesday, and get to do it again today...

Here in Ontario, the MTO dip on a regular basis. The cost here in Nothern Ontario is $1. 199 a litre or $4. 53 a US gallon.

the resale value will remain higher than if he puts miles on it, but have you been watching used diesel truck prices lately?

I hear you...

There are some sweet deals right now. I've seen several nice examples of '05's for mid-twenties... Even an '06 with lower miles...

just don't go bragging/blabbing about it to the wrong person and get your tank dipped!

And why would he have to worry about being dipped?

There is no red dye in homemade biodiesel. It is perfectly legal to make your own biodiesel for your own personal use (I believe 5000 liters/year is the magic number). I'm sure if you start making it and selling it for a profit you might gain some attention from the authorities.

I wish I had a garage to park the truck in. Mine just sits out in the cold and snow. And so will my new truck till the spring.

When I ordered it, diesel was at $3. 32/gal. Now at $4. 09 my Jetta TDI gets all the milage.

Soon it will be like this:

MY 2005 has 12200 miles, gets about 16mpg. As I am retired, unless I am hauling or towing, I use my 2002 VW Golf 5- speed- 55. 2 mpg @ mostly 70mph. Ethaanol is the biggest scam going.

55. 2 mpg??? I had 03 tdi and now a 06 tdi and there is no way I'd get 55. 2 mpg, unless you are talking about peek MPG. At times if I REALLY take it easy and follow buses and semi's up the turnpike I can break into the 50's but that is highway only. Once ya start driving around town it'll bring you back down to the low 40's. I have been keeping track of my mileage since new and over 59k miles it's 41. 7 mpg.

My 03 TDI was so much better on mileage. I had a 1980 something Honda CRX HF in college. This thing had a carburator (some people probably don't even know what that is :-laf ) and got high 40's always. 50's on good days with all highway. This was on GASOLINE. Try buying a Honda today that gets these MPGs ... even the hybrids have a tuff time under real conditions. Why does it feel we are going backwards when it comes to fuel mileage while fuel prices keep rising?????

I just don't get it.....
