Fuel temperature on return line

I see references to "hot fuel" on the return line to the tank. Does anyone

have solid information on those temps or if there is a spec for a range?
 
It will be dependent on engine temp and heat soak under the hood. It will probably run anywhere from 80 to 120 degrees,(possibly more) depending on ambient temp and how hard you are working it.
 
Here is the return flow off the POV we did in class a couple years ago. This fuel just was passed through the valve at 26,000 psi. The return off the head is going to be at least 200 degrees, but it mixes with the pump return that should be somewhat cooler before it heads back to the tank. The Sprinter Van uses a fuel cooler at the tank to keep the fuel at an acceptable temperature.

Is it more difficult now than before?
 
The D-Max has a Nice Cooler in front of the Fuel Tank. . We blanket rap them for the Winter, the D-MAX jells up allot easier they our Cummins...
 
I'am talking in-tank lift pump trucks, 2005 and newer trucks.
180* coming off the POV seems high but the return fuel mixed with the return line fuel, then mixed with the return fuel from the by-pass just above the lift pump, then mixed with fresh fuel from the tank, that fuel spread out over how many cubic inches of tank. I'll bet the fuel coming out the feed line from the tank isn't very hot. Maybe one day when I get off my lazy butt I'll have to take my infered temperature gun and measure the temp on the feed line coming from the tank. Then we'll know what the lift pump fuel temperatures are, which I think is kind of a mute point but some think it's a big deal since they don't like to run there fuel tanks below 1/4.
