My OEM balljoints lasted too about 42k. I had all 4 replaced under a chrysler service contract. 6k miles later the uppers had play in them and they were replaced under warranty. Now at 52k all 4 are shot again.

IS anyone else having them go bad as often as me?

have aftermarket Balljoints been working out better for people? ITs getting kinda old going in for an oil change and balljoints every 3-6k miles.

They were going to try to replace the OEM's with aftermarket ones but will make me pay the difference, which i think DC should cover the cost. If they want to put balljoints in every 3-6k miles and they will cover the cost go right ahead.

I replaced mine at 170K, I'm the second owner and the ones I took out were stock. Carli Suspension is coming out some new ball joints, look in I think "Product Research and Development" forum

Hey Bob4x4,

Is Carli making both upper and lower ball joints as well? They are def more heavy duty looking than the stock uppers.

By change would a front end leveling kit help out with the ball joint problem on Our 3rd gen trucks?

I'll sink down the extra bucks for ball joints that will last longer than an oil change.

Are those ball joints greasable?

Right now they are focussing on the upper 3rd gen,it seems to be the most the one that we need the most often.

They are being made with some high tech coatings from the aerospace industry.

I don't see more lift helping.

Bad ball-joints or bad choice of grease?

I have seen many posts about ball joints lasting 170K plus and also going bad within 10k. I have owned jeeps & 4x4's since the 70's and I have never had what I would consider unacceptable service from a ball joint, tie-rod or u-joint that was grease-able, that was also greased regularly. Any parts that I have replaced were replaced with the grease-able style and have not failed again during my ownership.

Is it a quality issue with parts or does it have to do with grease type and maintaince schedule and use?

My personal preference for chassis grease (suspension and u-joints) is Moly fortified grease.

We could all learn something if we compare notes with details such as the;

Replacement brand, Moog, TRW, or other

Is it grease-able yes or no?

How often is it greased?

What type of grease is used?

What type of service or use does the vehicle see?

Maybe someone that is a wiz with computers could create a survey that could tally responses.

The results of this post could save members considerable money.

Thanks Tim

I think there may be too many variables to get an accurate survey. There are a few on this board that use their trucks beyond what would be considered normal duty and on the other end you will have a like number that don't stress them at all. Somewhere in the middle the masses will fit in. The problem comes in with the owners perception. I have customers that will pull 20k lb combination loads (5r + pull trailer) to Alaska and think that is normal duty as well as customers that never do more than an occaisional atv trailer on the highway.

The bottom line is those that play harder will spend more in repairs in most cases, grease or not.

I do drive over some rough roads and I try to do my best to avoid them, but I cringe every time I hit them and I can hear the CLUNK in the front end most of the time.

Thats the dead giveaway that the ball joints are toast AGAIN!

Bob any word on the Carli Upper balljoints?

Bob4x4- Do you have a estimate on release of ball joints (minutes, weeks, months or years?)

This is a quote from another forum from the Carli office mgr

These HD Ball Joints will be done when we have sufficiently beaten them, given them internal rectal bleeding and completed the lengthy LONg term testing phase of which they are currently in. That being said, they are the goods! And good things come to those who need HD Ball Joints. There is a circle within a circle who are giving these things the absolute worst they can throw at them and they are begging for more. Now remember when Carli Suspension Inc. puts thier name on something, it means something. It means we have done the homework, legwork, and we refuse to put something on the market until we have made sure it passes all performance tests. And there are a ****load! We just want you guys to be happy with anything you purchase from us. So we take a little extra time making sure its gonna do what we say it will.

FWIW, I just had all four ball joints replaced under warranty at 30k. I think my heavy 19. 5 wheels/tires helped in wearing them out early. Too bad they put in more OEM junk from China. After my warranty period, will definitely put in some higher-quality parts.
