I am hoping someone will have some advise! I have noticed a very slight down hill surge or buck while in cruise control. I have a Banks 6/gun PDA. On the transmission slip gauge it bounces from 2% to 6%. Banks claims that is very little slip. They think it is a CC problem. I have it in all levels 1 thru SL. My MC 4x4 2500 auto has 45k on it. I have had the problem for the last 10k. Anybody have this problem? Thanks:confused:

Do a search, this is common.

IIRC, those with programmers should remove them to see if that is the fault... if not, check these things...

FCA (Fuel Control Actuator) and injectors.

Mine was caused by injectors... replaced them after one failed, problem solved.

I have an 06 3500 6sd that does it. i also have banks. the problem is if you have the accelerator setting turned up high like 200% back it down to 120%. the reaction time for the banks is faster than the cruise control.

KFisher, I have mine set at what ever Banks set from factory, I haven't messed with it. I got ver 1. 5 from TWest haven't had time in install yet.

My 06 MC 3500 has a similar problem, only downhill with cruise on, but my truck is stock. I have 52K now, and have had the issue since new. 2 different dealers have looked at it, one had it three different times, but can't duplicate the problem (it usually starts after about 1hr drive time) and can't find any problems. Had 2 reflashes done, neither with any resolution to that issue. Last dealer says my injectors aren't the problem. Last dealer basically said "it isn't bad, is it? just turn the cruise off".

If you find any more out, let us know. Sure would like to find the problem.

Jeff

Mine does the same thing. I've got 17k on it now. Not too worried about it other than it being a little annoying

I have the same thing on mine brand new and did it stock too. It was nothing more than annoying to me. I found that tapping decel and then accel back to the speed I wanted stopped it.

Well, I talked to Cummins in Oakland CA. The tech said, as of 2001 Dodge is making the "Cummins" engine. They have no input and can't even troubleshoot! Whats up whit that? If he had to guess, are surging problem is fuel rail pressure related.

Actuator ETR Fuel control #4932457 Cummins

#5183245AA Dodge

#0928400666 Bosch

Cummins is by far the least expensive, less than $100. 00.

:) Jess

By the way, my CC has surged since new, even after the new FCA, with or without programmers, the programmers just make it more pronounced.

Were you able to resolve your problem? I've got an 2007 5. 9L 6spd 4wd 25k miles that is stock outside of a down pipe back exhaust system and an opened up factory airbox that does the exact same thing... . light surge/buck going down hill while in cruise control.

Does anyone else have any good pointers? I'm dreading taking the truck to the dealer, since they only seem to be able to fix problems if the part is visibly broke or the truck won't start

Mine cleared up when I replaced the APPS. You might try the APPS recalibrate and see if that helps. Turn switch on, slowly depress accelerator to floor then slowly release, turn switch off. Repeat two more times.

my 03 HO 6sp

Mine started this after the reflash for the infamous cruise control recall on the 03 HO 6 speed. The Bosch shop said it was a throttle position indicator problem. He said it was not the unit itself but suspected a high joint at a connector, the unit itself check ok. Dodge said all was as it should be. The truck was stock at the time and hasn't change with upgrades or more reflashes. I've just come to understand that little back and forth movement I'm feeling going down hill is just Dodge screwing me again.

There is a delayed response due to driveline slack, and the CC overreacts and over corrects the throttle, that is why it does the bucking. Either touch the brake to deactivate, then reset cruise, or to put your foot on the accel pedal until you stabilize it, then let go. Slowing down, or speeding up a little, also fixes it.

All vehicles have some unstability on cruise control, it just happens under different circumstances, but most have the hardest time downhill, due to driveline slack.

I disagree... if it is working correctly, there will be no bucking or surging.

My drivetrain had 143k on it when the injector failed, so it is far from tight. Once repaired, the cruise never bucked/surged until recently, when I started having fueling issues again at 168k. When it worked correctly, even having a 5k RV in tow made no difference... it was as smooth downhill as it was uphill.

My truck will "buck" using CC when I'm not pulling a load, but when I'm towing my 31' travel trailer and boost doesn't drop to zero when I top a hill it doesn't "buck". It happens with or without the module turned on.
