Has anyone else noticed it being harder to take off with the 6. 7's with a manual. I notice it some but my old truck was an 02 6speed with 4. 10's. My new truck has 3. 73's so I new there would be some diffrence. It's more noticible with a trailer. But many guys around here have been complaining about it. And all of them traded 00, and 01's in for there new trucks. I was wondering if there trucks have electronic throttle control and if this might be the problem. But the 6. 7s are getting a bad name for this preety quick atleast around here.

I've never had any problems with mine but I've only towed with a few times though and it was not that heavy, less than 9000lbs. Coming from a gasser, the only thing that I notice is the turbo lag but that is only slight then the tach climbs like a rocket

All 24 valve trucks have drive by wire.

It probably has something to do with emissions, I'd guess they fuel lightly until the turbo has spooled enough to keep it clean. Wait for the 6. 7L SMARTY, it will probably turn it into a monster:D

I dont have any problems with mine I can get the trailer rolling with 2nd gear but much better with 1st gear. when I am manuvering the trailer around at slow speeds I use low range.

That's as good an explanation as any I could come up with.

I had a 2000 model year 2500 with the 3. 54 differentials. It would add fuel immediately to maintain the (800? rpm) idle. I could just let the clutch out and the truck would move.

I have killed my 2008 (with 3. 73 differentials) about a dozen times at stoplights by driving it like I drove my 2000 truck. It doesn't appear to be just the differential ratio. I think the engine fueling curve is different.

I'm not really complaining about it though. I just have to learn how to drive the new truck. I like the new engine and the new six-speed manual transmission more than my 2000 truck's.

I have a couple of questions for you first. 1) Are you talking about starting out in 2nd unloaded and being in 2WD? 2) If in 4wd, are you in low range?

The 6. 7 has a longer stroke and bigger pistons and seems to effect my C&C as I think you were talking about. If I start out in 2nd like I do with my 04. 5 NV5600, it can stall, and for the first few months I was starting out in 1st until I just got tired of that and just started to give a little throttle starting in 2nd. The first road test with a 6. 7 C&C W/O a bed (even lighter), I stalled it leaving the dealers lot and was embarrassed. The rear gears are the same ratio for both trucks and the only difference, is the G56 to the NV5600. I hate it when I step out of my 04. 5 and into the C&C, because I will stall it sometimes. I love the way the 04. 5 starts out in 2nd even on a incline with out giving any throttle, unless its loaded with my 5ver. When its loaded, I start out in 1st, even when my lighter boat is being trailered.

I hope this info helps you with your question and you can PM me for any more questions.

Steve...

There was a noticeable drop in low end when I went from my '01 to my '04. 5. I would assume the same drop would be noticed with a 6. 7L as well.

Less low end power = less emissions.

Now you guys have me leaning towards an auto.

... I can still start and pull 40K uphill w/o killing it and w/o touching the go-pedal. The Smarty might have something to do with that...

Im talking mainly about being in 2wd with the truck in second taking off. It just seems like there is a big difference in the way this truck takes off compared to my old truck. I have gottin adjusted to it now and like my truck, but I know a guy who traded his 99 in and is now trying to get rid of his new 6. 7, mainly because of this. But what you are saying makes sence why it would do this. I hope that the new smarty when it comes out will have a setting mild enough to increase throttle responce a little with out requiring a stronger clutch. What do think the odd's are?? And how about you guys with the bully dogs and edges on the manuals is the bottom end really improved???

I will never chip them or stack them as I believe in the stock setups. Cummins knows what there doing and leave it to them, with that being said, If someone comes out with a MPG improver that D/C wont void my warranty I would install that.

I'm surprized that your friend wants to get rid of his 6. 7 just for that. That longer stroke helps in the torque end of things and is not that hard to get used to. I do like to pull my boat out of the water so effortlessly while the fords and GM's are sounding like the rev limiters are maxed out. Just let the clutch out and roll up the ramp, and you get the funniest looks from other drivers that know that there trucks seem to struggle up the ramp. My daughter just about knocked me out of the boat when she dumped the clutch, but it did not stall. My C&C does the same but with just a slight tap on the throttle is all it takes. Maybe he would like to trade for my 04. 5 but then maybe I've already changed my mind. ;)

Steve...

Mads coming.

I've never stalled my '07 5. 9. It is the easiest manually shifted vehicle I've driven of its size. Smarty enhanced it further and I'm confident when Marco and Bob release their 6. 7 product it'll boost your low end and improve overall driveability. Hang in there. Mads to the rescue. :)

I did sell my 07 5. 9 3500 QC G56 2WD DRW for that very reason. The HPCR engines don't seem to have that low idle, low rpm grunt that the VP44 24V motors had. I had an 01 3500 QC, ETH, NV4500 with 3. 54 gears that you could let the clutch out with no throttle, and it would lurch foward with no problem, heck , the engine did'nt even slow down! My 02 3500 QC, HO,NV5600 2WD 3. 54 was almost as good off idle, but a much better tow vehicle than the 01, so that was the keeper until I got this crazy idea to get the last of the 5. 9 3rd gens. As everyone knows, these trucks drive alot nicer than the 2nd gens, and this one was no exception, but where's the power? With 80 HP and 105 more FT. LBS. of torque and lower gear ratios in trans and the diff, this thing should have been a stump pulling son of gun! But it was'nt, the 02 HO was better at pulling the same loads on the same roads, and both trucks were stock, and in proper running condition. The G56 AD ratio trans is another story, as is the 3. 73 diff. ratio. My final solution, a 6. 7 wth a 68RFE, so far, so good.
